  • The reality of the MWC

Isn't the reality of the MWC is that Utah, BYU and TCU deserve better than to be dragged down by the rest of these schools. Each of these schools have shown that they can carry their weight among the BCS and the fact that the do nots are the things the BCS will use against us to keep what we have earned kind of pisses me off. Thoughts?

nah. I think it's cool smack against Tennessee fans (who were knocking the Y before Heaps committed) that Wyoming punked them in their house. New Mexico seems to do well vs. the Pac 10, too. UNLV did the job vs. ASU last year, and I think SDSU has a chance to turn things around w/ the new coaches. The MWC got mad respect last year, so as of right now I can't back that complaint.

The performance of SDSU is inexcusable. They're in the heart of an incredible talent pool and they're in the most attractive MWC city. There is no reason that schools like Boise State, BYU, Utah, Fresno, Hawaii and TCU should build such great programs while the Aztecs perpetually flounder.

And they have talent. They have probably the 4th-best recruiting class every year (according to Rivals star ratings), but the results don't play out.

MWC fans are very much like Boston Red Sox fans (the ones actually from Boston, mind you) pre-2004. Part of their identity was being the team that could never win it all. Similarly, MWC fans sort of revel in the "shafting" they get each year from the BCS. Not that they enjoy it, or that they wouldn't change it if given the option, because they certainly would. But that aspect is a part of them.

I 'm pretty sure that if (when?) the MWC gains BCS admission (or at least some of the schools head to BCS conferences to gain it) their fans will be even more insufferable than they already are. Yea, even as insufferable as Red Sox fans.
Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

You mean BYU and Utah fans can become more insufferable?

I will agree with this to the point that the ratings of the rest of the conference will likely effect whether the MWC gains an auto bid during the current BCS evaluation period. The bottom feeders will alway be bottom feeders, but the middle of the road teams are the ones that need to set up. Air Force needs to be the equivalent of Cal or Okla. St. CSU needs to be on the level with Virginia or Maryland, and one of the other four need to step up and be a consistent winner(NM used to fit that bill). If the middle tier of the MWC rates with the lower tier of the BCS conferences, then we will continue to be on the outside looking in.
