Off the cuff I think you will beat USU, WSU, Wazzu and Colorado.

I would put these games at slight advantage Utah: @ BYU

Slight Advantage Opponent: OSU, ASU, @ Ariz

Likely to be decided underdogs: Stan, UCLA,

Snowball Flametorch chances: @Oregon, @ USC

A good year will get you 6 wins and into a bowl game.

That is a great home schedule for the Utes. Avoiding the Dogs and Kal isn't quite the same advantage as avoiding the Zeros and the Farm, but should be cool to see Stanford roll into RES. That place will be rockin', no doubt.

I'm glad we were able to keep Wazzu and avoided Washington since we seem to play terrible against them.

I'm definitely jealous of the roadie to the Eug. I may have to find a way to attend that game (and cheer for the Ducks, of course).

I've been to Autzen twice now. While it's a nice facility and loud, I really wouldn't consider it to be superior to RES in terms of crown noise or game day atmosphere WHEN RES is on its "A" game. I didn't think much of the tailgame/pre-game. The biggest difference is that Oregon has a great football team wheras Utah does not. That's what really matters at Autzen.

I'll probably make that trip again because I'm a masochist and because my wife is from Oregon so it makes that trip an easy sell.

lol. I've been to Autzen once and RES plenty. You're smoking crack.

I was at Autzen in 2009 when Utah played there. Oregon was 1-1, the weather was drizzly, it was a 1:30 kickoff, and Utah probably didn't inspire much enthusiasm (even though they had a 16-game undefeated streak at the time). The atmosphere was underwhelming.

That said, I'm guessing a night game against a ranked opponent is an entirely different story in terms of noise level.

when schools are doing well, the atmosphere is electric. Very few schools inspire sellouts even when they stink. And you don't have to go back too many years to when Oregon was having struggles. But when Oregon is doing well that is a crazy place. I doubt Portland ute was comparing facilities because that is a fools errand. Oregon has Nike facilities. Utahs football team meets in a portable trailer right now and the players run through an inflatable balloon and past electric trash cans to get onto the field.

I think Notre Dame is literally the only college venue I have visited that sells out year in and year out regardless of the quality of the team.

I don't think Utahs A Game compares to Oregons A game. In fact, I don't think it is close. That being said, I am really down with game day at RES. they know how to throw a party and the game day vibe there is really fantastic when the Utes are playing well or a big name comes to town. you can say what you want about the Hunty (as Top Ute calls it) because that thing is an asbestos laden dump, but if I catch anyone talking sh** about RES, give me a reasonable travel time allowance and I will be right there, arm in arm with my Ute brethren, defending it tooth and nail. I just won't suffer fools on this matter. That's how strongly I feel about it.

I agree with you and at times I occasionally have blasphemous thoughts about wishing I were a Ute fan. It is a passing thought though like wishing I was married.

I was there in 2009 and also in 2002(?).

I'm more than willing to chalk it up to the weather and, yes, a crowd underwhelmed by the opponent at the time. However, the atmosphere at either of those games was underwhelming. To the point that I think my experiences at BYu left me more impressed.

Again, I am willing to accept that maybe the Oregon fans didn't bring it because Utah didn't really excite them as an opponent, they were day games and the weather was not great. However, that just goes to prove that Autzen isn't superty-duperty awesome no matter what. Admittedly, I haven't been to a night game at Autzen for a conference game, etc. I just know that games that I've been to as RES vs. TCU, Oregon State (2008), BYU, USC, Cal, etc. have all had a much better atmosphere than what I experienced at Autzen.

DDD rightly points out that I am not comparing facilities. I WAS impressed by Oregon's facilities. They were like the Disney of athletics facilities. Everything was impeccably maintained and the attention to detail was impressive. OTOH, the game day atmosphere/tailgating, etc. was not all that impressive at all. Maybe it was the weather or whatever, but other schools I've been to (except BYU) do the pre-game/tailgating as good if not better than Oregon. IMO.

Perhaps one day I'll try to get to Autzen for a matchup of top 10 teams and see what it's like. I should like that very much.

Not to threadjack, but South Carolina retired this honor years ago.
