  • How is it that so many teams do not know how to manage the clock?

LSU gets the ball with a minute to go and 1 timeout. They run 3 plays and the game ends.

    That's very bad.

    General rules of thumb:

    1) all throws must be to the sideline or past 10 yards.
    2) No dump off tosses to a RB- see Rule 1
    3) Do not take a sack- throw the ball away. Even if they call intentional grounding, the worst that happens is the ball is set where you threw it (where you would have take the sack anyways), and you might get a 10 second runoff. Much better than the time that would run off if you are sacked
    4) If you get stuck with a bad play and the clock keeps running, burn your timeout immediately. Do not try to hold it until later in the drive. You don't know what will happen later in the drive- but you do know you need to stop the clock now.

Egregious end of game series for LSU.

Don't worry, Cali, LSU will get to play Bama again in the national championship game.

Ugh. Sadly, you may be right. An undefeated ND stands in the way at least. An SEC team could leapfrog Oregon and K State, but not ND. Of course, ND is the worst of that group so they might lose.

LSU used their final time-out prior to the missed FG.

If you want pristine clock management, look at Bama's drive.

I thought they used it after 2nd down when the receiver inexplicably ran 15 yards towards the sideline (and didn't get there) instead of 3 yards for a time-stopping first down. And yes- Bama's drive was a thing of beauty.

Yep... ND should have been out done today if it wasn't for the "Luck of the Irish". Pitt was given too many chances to win.

Since this is a clock management thread, did anyone notice how USC basically threw away their game at Arizona last week by not spiking the ball on numerous occasions, when they had a chance at a FG but had to throw a hail mary because they didn't want to spike the ball?

Sadly, BYU could also write a book on bad clock management.

Bronco & timeouts come to mind, specifically.

Statistically, Pitt had no business being within 17 points of the Irish. If anything, Pitt killed it in the 'good fortune' statistic
