  • Recruiting: Mormon HS Football Player Makes ESPN Top 10

Austin Rehkow of Central Valley High School from Spokane Valley, Washington makes 67-yard FG to put game into overtime which his team would eventually win. I know the kid personally, he hasn't heard too much from colleges yet (but I guess that's prototypical for a kicker), but I know he's at least interested in BYU. Smart kid with a 3.96 GPA. 6'3" 190pds. Also plays receiver on his FB team and is one heck of a basketball player too!

Not as interesting, but this seems to be a recruiting video from the summer of last year: [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQdgeUxQ6tc"]Austin Rehkow-Summer kicking - YouTube[/nomedia]

With BYU's kicking woes this year, this kid should be strongly considered by the program. I don't know how I can nudge the staff, but someone with inside connections should, haha!

We have a Parade All-American who can't kick worth shit. Coincidentally we have a Parade All-American QB who can't throw worth shit.

I can't imagine that the state record holder for the longest field goal not getting noticed by colleges. Especially when he is getting a lot of national press as well. Of course, right now NCAA FB coaches can't contact him (in a quiet period). But Andrew can initiate contact with NCAA coaches, however, and that is what he should be doing. Also, he should be clearing his calendar in December and January for campus visits.

If he hasn't already filled out the BYU FB questionnaire then he should do it. He should also be sending Nick Howell emails with links to highlights and updates about how he is doing especially this last game and this 67 yard kick that tied the game for his team. Coaches love it when a player shows active interest in their program especially BYU.

I have a hard time getting excited about a kicking recruit, when the only kicking recruit with any notoriety we've ever had is Justin Sorensen.

Is he going on a mission right out of high school or a year out of high school? That will tell me whether I should be excited about this kid 3 seasons from now or 4 seasons from now.

I saw that on SportsCenter last night. Heck of a kick.

And a lot of pressure when it was to tie the game -- and his team won. Awesome.
