I remember him when I was ingrade school. He must of grew up in hell. At least he did not grow up in the best of circumstances when his family lost there ORe Ida farm in Michigan. Went to dumpster for clothes and slept at least for some time under hay truck. Were able to build a house with sweat equity.
Had siblings run away, Brother got killed as well. Parents divorced when he entered college. Tension in the home. Finally went to live with Sister in St Anthony. At that time I don't think IHSAA transfer rules were as strict could live with nonparent or out of district and play ball as long as you went to the school. Now if you don't live with parents need hardship clause or write a good bs story to the state of why you moved. Or sit out a year. Utah has that problem right now with some seniors.
Did ok in St Anthony could of been qb at Ricks but had no way to pay. Ron Haun said he had talent to be linebacker so he worked at some mill in Rexburg then stretched his muscles in weight room. He did not go on mission. Married shortly after High School. Won awards at Ricks and Outland at BYU.
Was not primetime in the NFL did ok though. I knew people from St Anthony that knew him or of him. Some remember either his wifes parents or maybe his dad and stepmom or vice versa when they went on a mission and seen him.
He I am sure is still a sought out speaker of rags to riches. What is he doing now. Is he a role model or hero? I first started posting on an idahosports and someone from near Rigby thought his prayer he gave at last ricks game was a miracle. Elder Buck prayed that the Viking Ship would sail again. Knew his wild brother.
I seen part of an interview on byutv with him at the Y of I and a more recent legends one. Good person been through a lot wonder if he is a hero or role model. Has kids going to U know.
