Like most opening weekends, 90% of the games are total turds. However, there are a couple that intrigue me:

    Thurs Aug 30th
Texas A&M at Louisiana Tech - On paper this should be a runaway win for A&M, but La Tech hung with some folks they shouldn't.

    Friday, Aug 31st
No. 24 Boise State at No. 13 Michigan State - Both teams lose a great QB, but Sparty has a lot of offensive tools and a great defense. Edge Sparty.

    Sat Sept 1st
No. 8 Michigan vs. No. 2 Alabama - This will get a lot of press but I doubt its close.
Hawaii at No. 1 USC - Just to see if they live up to the hype.

Miami/BC and Nevada/Cal could be decent afternoon games.

Tennessee/NC State is another Friday night game that could be entertaining.

Vegas opened with A&M -11, line has dropped to 7/7.5. If you're a gambler, here's a shot to make some cash if you believe in your prediction.

Boise is going to struggle without Moore. The MSU game shouldn't be close. Although the Spartans lost their QB too.

You're probably right, but how many times has Boise proved the nation wrong by "upsetting" a BCS team?

Auburn v Clemson should be a good one.

True. Peterson did his best work with Zabransky who was mostly mediocre, but Boise still won big. Kellen Moore was special. Can Peterson do it again with a Zabransky like talent? I don't think so. If he does, he'll prove basically flawless as a HC.

Based on his track record, there's really no reason to think he won't do it again. Yes, Moore was something special, but as you pointed out, Peterson did it with Zabransky. Boise is successful because of Peterson, not the QB.

The D-line will be better than it should be, considering the hits it took to graduation. The secondary -- while lacking depth -- is a top 30 unit and the offensive line has its share of next-level talent. If BSU can keep D.J. Harper healthy at RB, I would be shocked if it didn't win at least nine games.

Nine wins would be 3-4 losses - that's a huge failure/dropoff for that program. Remember, this is a program that has either played in or contended for a BCS bowl game for the last five or six years.

The graduating class that left averaged over 12 wins per season and that's unsustainable. Winning only nine doesn't make this year's players failures -- not every class that leaves can be as good as the one it preceded.

That's why I used the term dropoff as well. You get to decide what to call it. Peterson is used to winning 12 games - he might consider 9 wins a failure. Semantics. The original comment was that they would struggle without Moore - that they wouldn't be able to sustain these incredible, BCS contending seasons they've had the last five years. If they "only" win 9, I'm right.

Notre Dame and Navy at 9:00 AM EST from Ireland should be cool...or at a minimum, cool that you don't have to wait until noon for a football game on Saturday.
