  • Motion Control Shoes?

I overpronate, so I have been running in some Nike Structured Triax 11's, but I am having some knee problems and in trying to determine the cause, I noticed that there is still some heavy wear on the outside of my heel. I would assume by the uneven wear pattern that I am still over pronating in these shoes and that I may need some motion control shoes instead. I am going to head over to Salt Lake Running Company in the next few days, but does anyone have any suggestions for motion control shoes?

As a supinator, I don't really know what to tell you. But I am curious to see others' opinions.

The Brooks Trance series is my choice. The Trance 7's are the best shoe I've ever used. The 8's are good for motion control but feel a bit harder to me than the 7's did. I tried to buy as many 7's as I could before they all disappeared but in my size they are no more. I'm hoping the 9's go back to the softer ride. But anyway I'll put my plug in for the Trance series.

I pronate too, and the shoes that I really like are the Asics Gel Foundation. They're light, durable, and well-made. I haven't ever had knee problems when I've run with them.
        Not that, sickos.

My motion control shoes control my motion is such a way that my butt remains attached to the couch. Let me know if you find a better shoe choice.

I swear by Gel Foundation 8's, mostly because Asics doesn't monkey with the design. I've been through three other models (Sauconys, Supernovas, and one of the Nikes that I could almost always find in outlet stores) but the manufacturers kept changing the design on me or discontinuing.

Gel Foundation 8's have been around for something like a decade with no changes.

I also hear really good things about the Brooks Beasts.

I hate how expensive they are, but I haven't had a stress fracture in 5 years and I'm running more than ever.

Hmm, I think I will try the Gel Foundation 8's, they seem to have great reviews everywhere I look, plus they are cheaper than many of the others. I just found them at footlocker.com with a 25% code for $67.49+s&h/sales tax.

I like that they don't change them too. When I went looking for a new pair a couple months ago, I just bought a pair of 7s for over half off. Pretty much the same as the 8, but a lot cheaper.

Good to know. I have Supernovas now and they are better than my last pair of shoes.

From what I heard from the running store guy (so take it for what it's worth), Adidas briefly messed with the Supernova, and then went back to the original because of the uproar. In the meantime, I moved on. I sure loved those shoes, though. It's like when I had girlfriends. There's no chance of reconciliation (maybe temporary late-night reacquaintance sessions). Once we break up, I'm on my way.
