Finally got this done over the weekend.
Did a fair amount of research and looking at the local WoodCraft store to see what I wanted. Wife has a new project that will require this, so excited to try it out in production mode.
Base. I made a wood frame, squared it up, and put a piece of 3/4" MDF on top.
Ran the random orbital sander over it to get it real smooth.
Put a piece of 1/2" MDF on top of that, and routed out hole for the router plate, and tracks for the fence, mitre slide, and track for holding a clamp, or feather board.
Sadly, made this piece twice. I messed up the first time and cut the plate hole a touch too big.
I bought a router holding plate from MLCS. Fits like a glove.
Fence in place. I spent a lot of time looking at fences. The bottom piece of the fence can move, so that you can set the gap based on what type of bit being used. Also added a track for clamps/feather boards.
I start cutting wood tonight!
