  • Golf near West Yellowstone?

I've been roped into an extended weekend at Island Park with my wife's family. Personally, I find Yellowstone (or at least, her family's approach to Yellowstone) to be one of the more boring vacation spots. That said, I haven't been able to convince them to vacation elsewhere, despite eight years of trying. I've managed to weasel out of it for the past couple years, but I'm due to participate again.

We'll be up there over Father's Day weekend next month, and I've struck a deal that I'll go along and be a good sport if I get a morning to go golfing. (And that rinky-dink Island Park course doesn't count). Anyone have recommendations for a full-length golf course within an hour or two of Island Park/West Yellowstone?

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

your best bet is a course in the Ashton area, or Jackson has some nice courses.

I've never played there, but the course at Big Sky looks decent. About 50 miles north of West Yellowstone..
There's no such thing as luck, only drunken invincibility. Make it happen.

The first decent course south of Yellowstone is Rexburg. Not real long but it's a good course. The St. Anthony course is a piece of crap so don't stop there. If you keep driving all the way into Idaho Falls then Pinecrest is a very old style course that is nice. If you head up to the Driggs/Victor area then Teton Springs is the course to play up there. It was private but i believe they have opened it up a little this year.

That looks pretty good, actually. A bit pricey for my taste, but vacation is a time to splurge, right?

Upon googling your suggestion, however, I was initially thrilled, and ultimately disappointed, when I learned that it wasn't this Big Sky:

I.Falls is probably a little farther away than I want to go, since I'm going to need to be back to Island Park by noonish. Rexburg is only about an hour from where we stay at Island Park Village, so that might work. Which course in Rexburg?

I would say the same thing if I were scared of losing to a noob on my home course.

I just canceled my families summer vacation to take that challenge.

I'll take you up on that for the Thursday before we head up to Island Park. Thursday, June 18. Mark it down on your calendar.
