  • Toughest holes in Utah

71 and Junkie talking about 6 at TP got me thinking what are some of the hardest holes in Utah.

    Some of mine

12 at TP (I believe this is a dog leg left over water) - I have a terrible time with that drive.

6 at TP - 500 yards from the tips up hill par 4. Better hit it big.

3 & 4 at Wingpoint - Long par 4 with water down the left side with a green hugging the water followed by a long par 3 over water. Number 4 from the tips with the wind blowing is brutal.

3 & 12 at Valley View - Even when I hit the green in two on 3 i tend to three jack it and 12 from tips is tough. I play that hole best when I hit a club less and just try and keep it in front of the green and hope to get up and down.

I forgot that damn bridge hole down at Sunbrooke. Who ever designed that thing needs to be shot.

#6 at Green Springs. Going across the canyon on #5 is easy, because it's a short par 3. However, coming back across you've got a 449 yd Par 4 with a pretty narrow fairway. Canyon to the right (ever dangerous for those of us with an inside-out swing and a natural fade) and OB on the left. Also, you can't crush a driver straight or you'll roll through the fairway and into the canyon. The green on the other side is shallow (long from left to right, but pretty small from front to back) and the "bail out" zone to the right is miniscule. Only a few feet of grass in front and in back of the green (in front is the canyon, and in back is a sagebrush desert where you will never find your ball).

Unless you hit a perfect tee shot right to the edge of the fairway, you'll probably be hitting a 5 or 6 into a shallow green. Tough, tough hole. If I par, it feels like a birdie.
Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

This thread isn't what I thought it was going to be.

No 9 at entrada. Hardest Par 5 I have played, that I can remember.

12 at Fox Hollow (formerly number 4 they reversed the front and back 9).

490 yard Par 4, tight passage way to the fairway, trees all the way up the right side, with a rolling fairway, so even with a good tee shot you still may have a bad lie.

Fairway is fairly wide which helps but it also has a small green protected by long grass in the front and if you no room to go long because there is a river running behind it.

Also number 10 at Spanish Oaks, 550 yard par 5, straight up hill, straight in to the canyon with the worst headwind you have ever seen. Tiny green with a cliff up the whole left side and behind the green.

These are good. Everything at Valley View is hard.

I would add #17 at TP is deceptively easy, but really hard. Even though its only a 3-par, it's a 250 yard 3-hole if youre hitting from the back tees. From my chick tees, it's still 190 yards. You're basically hitting to an island green and the huge change in elevation throws off your distance even when you know the yardage. If you're shooting a low trajectory, especially if you have a beginner's right-to-left hook, the ball runs on you-into the water.

Perhaps it is a homoerotic reference?

lol. It wasn't a homoerotic reference till you made it one.

I loathe that hole. I have yet to even par it. I have never even seen someone par it. I can nail a drive there and still have 185 left. More frequently I have 200-220.

One time that I can recall I've been on the green in reg, and then I freakin' 3-putted.

I would also add those couple holes on the back 9 at Hobble to the list. Not because of length but because of tight fairways and turns. Whichever one it is that has the fairway running away from you and you can't hit more than 3-4 iron off the tee...that's one's a pain. At least that one though I can claim to have parred a handful of times. The 13th at Fox Hollow remains my nemesis.
