Yesterday, my washer started acting up. I was sitting in the family room when I heard the washer turn on. I got up, turned it off, and went back to the TV. This sequence repeated itself about ten times, though it was a little weird when some of the lights on the washer were blinking when they're not designed to blink. I got the washer to stop turning itself on by pulling the plug, but now I have to deal with finding out what the problem is. I think I'd rather deal with a ghost than a manufacturer's warranty.

Either there's a ghost in my house, or there's an electrical fault in my washer.

What brand/model?
If it has an older switch/relay style electrical system it might have a buildup of goo on an electrical connection (or a dirty switch), causing it to turn on radomly. Probably would be an easy fix.
If it is a newer model that is computer controlled, there may be a ghost in the system. Get it exorcised before it releases the 'magic smoke' out of the electronic components.

It's one of those new high efficiency models from Maytag (I don't remember the model). I'm calling Maytag later today.Originally posted by NorthwestUteFan View PostWhat brand/model?

Our Dryer has this wrinkle free button that essentially programs the Dryer to turn on every half or so to ensure the clothes do not get wrinkled..
Methinks you have something similar for a washer. Maybe a non-mildew button when leaving wet clothes in the washer.. Who know for what reason but I have a feeling some tree-hugger thought it would be a cool cost saving feature...
