I'm torn. I think it would send a message that all mormons act in lock step.
Maybe I am wrong but I don't think Huntsman is viewed as being a Mormon in the same mold as Romney. Isn't it pretty well known that he is not practicing (to phrase it in a way that maybe most people would think about it)?
Your concern in this context is strange to me. I realize that we fight the criticism that we're monolithic, but here I don't think he has much choice. I suppose he could endorse Newt, but he also will be motivated by what is most advantageous to himself. Post-SC, I think Mitt will be the clear nominee and Hunstman will want to line himself up nicely for an appointment. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me at all if he's got his sights set on Sec'y of State. Personally, I think he'd be a perfect fit (assuming a Romney win).

Maybe now it is, but prior to his "I'm a Christian" line, I had no idea that he was anything but a straight arrow, died-in-the-wool Mo. I've also only spent 18 mos. living in Utah, and his uber-Mormon brother used to be my ward's high councilor.

Only among Mormons. I think the rest of country sees him as Mormon.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

No way in hell. He's always positioned himself opposite Romney for political reasons mentioned here, has been a vocal critic of Romney, and he's not getting a plumb appointment from Romney EVER.

I probably agree with that, but I can't see Huntsman, a moderate, endorsing any of the more conservative candidates.

Signed,
Hillary Clinton.
I see your point, and I don't doubt that Mitt would refuse him an appointment out of spite, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't try, and it doesn't mean he wouldn't be good at it.

Another good point you bring up is that I'm not sure Romney needs a Huntsman endorsement-- he's all the moderate Mormon this race will ever need for the Republican/independent demographic.

Sure he's talented, but could he land back to back appointments from a Democrat and a Republican? I just don't think that's where he's going with his career. I think the Mormon issue is poisonous for Huntsman to get too cozy with Romney in any case.
