Love ya man...thanks for sticking around!
Just a thought - would you consider holding the same kind of grudge against the teams on the football schedule next year as you do for whinny BYU fans? I'd like to see you be able to take that out on someone...

You made the right decision to stay at BYU, Bronco. That "fifth priority" schtick/nonsense wouldn't work anywhere else."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Sweet Bronco,
I am glad you are staying and we don't have to break in another green LDS head coach. You turned out pretty dang good and I don't know how many times we would be that lucky. Of course we are two for three if you start with Lavell.
That being said thanks. Now that you have shown you like BYU, how about going a little easier on the folks out in the pews. It will make it a lot easier for me to part with $1,200 in the Spring. I know that is a measily amount, but hey it has been a tough economy.

I sometimes wonder if Bronco would be better off going someplace else. Don't get me wrong, I am usually happy Bronco is here, and I think he is a good coach. While he sometimes frustrates me, I think there are very few, if any people who could do as good a job as he has as BYU's coach. And of all the stuff he says that makes you say "WTF?", I think he doesn't believe 80% of it. He is just saying it so that the True Believers in BYU Football being the special forces of the army of the Lord will tear up when they think of all the good that the sons of Helamen are doing up in LES.
Having said that, I think he DOES believe 20% of the weird stuff he says. If he were to go to a place where all he had to worry about was football, I think he may be able to really be an excellent coach.
But even though Bronco may be better away from BYU than at BYU, he is still probably better than any replacement we could get right now, so I am happy to have him, even with the occasional eye-rolls he induces.

I agree but I think the percentages are closer to 50-50 than 80-20.Originally posted by Clark Addison View PostI sometimes wonder if Bronco would be better off going someplace else. I have heard from more than one person now that Bronco is genuinely weird. Not just awkward like he comes across in interviews, but weird.Originally posted by Clark Addison View PostYou may be right. I used to think it was 95-5, but I have been creeping toward the opinion that he really does believe more and more of the goofy things he says."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

I'm a little closer to you than Goat on this. I think he does believe the crap he says (at least some of it). I think it does hold him back. He has something holding him back from taking it to the next level.Originally posted by Clark Addison View PostI sometimes wonder if Bronco would be better off going someplace else. --not doing the kiss ass thing to bring in highly recruited kids that need to have their ass kissed in the recruiting process
--hostile attitude towards highly recruited, naturally talented kids
--too much favor given to walk-ons and lower recruited kids who work their ass off
--small man syndrome, ie instead of taking advantage and joining together with resources in the media, fan base, etc, he would rather oppose them
--this thing with less practice time, trying to show everyone he does it different
--hiring assistants that are not big names, to show the world assistants are not necessary with his approach
--not recruiting non-LDS as much because he doesn't need them
Big disclaimer here. I could argue against myself and trash myself on any one of these points. He's got a lot going for him. He gets a lot out of his players, you can't deny that. But I really think when you combine it all, there's something here that is holding Bronco back a little.
At BYU, he can get away with doing this crap. He could call all potential recruits his bitch and make them eat dirt, and he'd still get a lot of good LDS recruits. They want to be at BYU.
But I also wonder about the point Clark makes here. If he went to a place like UCLA, he would learn fast he'd need to drop some of these attitudes, and he would, and I think he'd be extremely successful.Last edited by jay santos; 01-12-2012, 05:49 AM.

That's the thing though, he wouldn't drop it IMO. This is the legacy he wants to leave. And that's why I think he has repeatedly said that if/when he does leave it will be for a military academy or a strong academic school. These are schools where he could continue to push his football 5th mantra.Originally posted by jay santos View PostI'm a little closer to you than Goat on this.
