  • Whittingham's Next Job

Although I think Utah would be crazy to ever let him go, imagine Urban Meyer and Ohio State doesnt pan out, and the Buckeyes come calling. If they threw 5yrs and $25MM at him, do you think he'd leave?

Pros: Money and guaranteed comfortable life until he dies. Big named program/recruiting.

Cons: Program is a bit tainted due to violations. Far from home.

    Yes.

Even with the violations, Ohio St is still a top 5 job.

Ohio State? Lol. I was thinking more like Weber State.

Maybe. What's he make 2MM per? Even with a wife of pioneer stock (not sure if she is), that can be squandered surprisingly easily.

At any rate, a more comfortable life.

This is probably a troll thread, but I could see Whit leaving Utah after another, oh, 5-7 seasons for an NFL job. I think the challenge of coaching in the NFL might entice the former L.A. Ram. Other than that I don't think there is a college job he'd want.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I'm not trolling. I think there is a decent chance that Whittingham ends his career at BYU. But the only way that happens is if he takes a job outside of Utah first.

Bronco is not long for the coaching profession. There is not a huge pool of qualified LDS coaches out there. I know it was a very difficult choice for Whittingham when he decided to stay at Utah. If he felt like he accomplished everything he wanted at Utah and moved on to a "dream" job, I could see him coming back to his roots to coach at BYU for a few years before retiring. I don't think that is too crazy. The rivalry will most likely have cooled way down by then. He would have to have been separated from the situation for several years first. Maybe he has changed in the last few years, but I doubt it.

Why would a ute think that is crazy? Look at Utahs OC. He basically did exactly what you are describing.

Why would a Ute think that BYU is a dream job? Good question.
