  • Utah Utes v. UCLA Bruins, Oct. 12, 2011

Again, I don't see a thread on this, so here we go.

    A few random comments:

The game will be on DISH 411. I don't know if a special sports package is necessary.

Trivia/small world stuff: Kevin Prince, UCLA's QB, is LDS, and active, last time I heard. I knew him when he was little and his family lived in our ward. His dad and i were in an EQ presidency together and played basketball on a church team that did pretty well. Kevin's uncle is Greg Prince, who (among other things) wrote the David O. McKay bio based on notes kept by Pres. McKay's secretary.

UCLA's OC was on the radio today and said he hopes Nelson Rosario, a 6'5", 220 lb. receiver, will come up big for UCLA. I wonder how Utah's little DBs will cover him? He's not the first tall receiver they've had to deal with, though.

I bet DDD would help you with a catchy thread title if you asked him nicely.

    Go Bruins!

UCLA is a tough team to figure out. They have losses to Houston, Texas & Stanford (all in the top 25 and a total of two losses between those three teams) and then they got whooped in Arizona. Their wins arent all that impressive except Ariz st. They beat SJSU by 10 Ore St by 8, Washington St by 3 (Wazzu totally blew the game) Cal by 17 and Ariz st by 1.

I don't get the joke are you hoping the UCLA team of October shows up? Or do you want them to think the game already happened and just stay home on the warm California beaches this weekend?

from everything I've read and heard this looks like a good matchup for Utah. UCLA strength is their running game vs. Utah's strength stopping the run.

UCLA's defense is ranked 10th in the conference. Some non-BCS Teams put up some big offensive numbers on the Bruins. Houston had over 500 yards and SJSU had over 200 yards rushing.

I think if Utah plays similar to the way it played against Oregon State and Arizona and limit turnovers they should be okay.

Utah must be really good against the run. I assume that is why Bollerjack is in love with Chris Polk.

UCLA tight end Joseph Fauria put this on twitter last summer:

"Dear Chow, I'm so glad you're gone. Can't wait to beat that ass Nov. 12!! Enjoy that big check! You don't deserve any of it."

They will probably use Mo Lee. He's listed at 6'0", but I swear he's closer to 6'2".

Like I said that shows why Boler is in love with Polk, he got 60 yards more than his season average against what is clearly the second best run defense in the conference.

This is why I like Utah this week. In order to win, Ucla has to run the ball. We have the #2 rush defense in the conference. In order for Utah to win, we have to be able to run the ball. Ucla has the 2nd to worst rush defense in the conference.

I'm looking forward to this game and am hoping that it will be a repeat of the last time UCLA played in RES with a starting QB who is LDS. The only way I'd guarantee a win would be if the LDS QB was considered one of the top high school QBs, if not the best, as the Utes have shown the ability to blow those guys out of the water.

In the last two trips to play games in the state of Utah, Ucla has lost by a combined total of 103 to 10.
