  • A question for Utes regarding the rivalry

Now that most of a season has sunk in, and you probably realize that most years (probably between 80 to 90% of the time) you won't be playing in the PAC 12 conference championship game, would you prefer to play BYU at the end of the season, or would you prefer that Chris Hill continue to force the game in September or even not at all?

I think most BYU fans are in agreement that we'd prefer the game at the end of November. What say ye now that the Utes have nothing to play for?

I prefer early in the season as long as BYU is an independent. I don't want to see the Utes helping BYU with scheduling.

Is this because you think "helping" BYU with scheduling hurts Utah? In recruiting? Or in some other what way?

Or is this because you begrudge BYU for going independent? That wouldn't make any sense, as it is Utah who abandoned BYU, not the other way around.

So if I were to rephrase my question, so that you were only taking the football game and your enjoyment as a fan into account, ignoring the peripheral issues, are you saying that the end of the season is when the game should be played?

A 9-win season is nothing to play for? Earning a bowl bid in a game we've never played in is nothing to play for? Building momentum for a better 2012 season is nothing to play for?

Coming from a fan of a team who can't win ANYTHING of significance in its current state, your take on what Utah has to play for is hilarious. From where you stand and in comparison to Utah, BYU should drop football altogether.

This is on the Pac-12. I guess it doesn't matter how many times you have to hear this because you continue to dismiss it.

Of course you want it at the end of November. Your schedule is pathetic in November.

I don't begrudge BYU for going independent. They did what they had to do.

As a fan and enjoyment of the game, absolutely make it the rivalry game at the end of the year. BYU is our rival no matter how much we try to manufacture one with someone else.

One of Utah's best negative recruiting tactics with BYU is going to be pointing at their schedule, if they cannot improve it. November is the hardest time for BYU to schedule and I don't want to see Utah help them and take away one of our recruiting advantages.

I have some bad news for you binky:

Unless curing cancer is now determined by a bowl victory, none of this stuff is for anything significant. It's just a game of football.
              PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Huh? You didn't respond to my question. Drop football?

As to your comment, what bowl game are you hoping for? If you win out, you'll be lucky to end up in the Vegas Bowl. If it's a new bowl you want, isn't Kraft Fight Hunger your best bet? Whatever. I was just wondering about your opinion on when the game should be played.

I guess I admire your BYU loyalty, but part of me says loyal fans like you are why maybe BYU feels they can pass up on the BIG12, if they did.

Utah finishes the year with UCLA, Colorado and Washington St. Before you poo poo WSU, remember they are the marquis team on our home schedule next year.

My avid BYU brother forgot BYU plays NMSU at 8:15 and let his wife schedule a trip to Washington leaving the day of the game.

Utah would be indeed generous to agree to play us in Nov.

If the Utes win out, we're in the Sun Bowl or Holiday Bowl depending on how many PAC-12 teams are in BCS games.

I'm sure you know better than me, even though Chris Hill has gone on the radio and said that he doesn't want the game in Nov and they might drop BYU altogether. That's not the question at hand.

I didn't mind having the game in September, it was kind of a nice change. Both teams were at fuller strength than they would have been in November and weather issues aren't really a concern like they have been in past years.

I am indifferent to when the game is played. I don't feel any void in my football enjoyment with the game played earlier this year. I enjoyed it all the same.

Personally, I think that November should be for conference games. Regardless of record, every game matters regarding conference standing, resultant bowl tie ins, etc.

I don't get your response. My question is to Ute fans. I've not defended BYU's schedule. Loyal fans like me? Passing up the B12? Where are you getting that? Was my phrasing really so poor? A few people have been able to respond to the question.

                              When did this happen?

I don't care when the game is. It doesn't really mater because Utah's hands are tied. We don't have the "luxury" BYU has when it comes to making their schedule. I sure wish Utah had that '"luxury".
