  • Is it worth it to rent an auger?

On October 7th I'm digging holes for all the trees we're planting in the back yard. We've got 8 teachers and priests coming over on the 8th to work for four hours spreading mulch (30 cu. yd. of it!), so I want to dig the holes on the 7th and plant the trees on the morning of the 8th before the boys get here. Apart from the small stuff that should just take a couple shovelfuls, I've got 12 ten-gallon trees and maybe 20 five-gallon-size shrubs. Is it worth it for me to rent an auger to dig the holes for the ten-gallon trees? How quickly does a hydraulic auger work?

Given that your yard is hard-tack red clay, I would call it a wise investment.
