  • Will BYU compete for a Conference Championship in the WCC in any sport...

    THIS season?

I recognize football isn't applicable here given your independence & the WCC doesn't offer football, yet couldn't locate a more appropriate forum for this question.

They have a potential, albeit long shot, in winning the 'Conference Championship' in Basketball, yet will be tough to unseat Gonzaga(returns 4 starters), St Mary's(same), and even USF(all starters and won CIT tourney last season).

    Having said that, what about...

    Women's Basketball?
    Soccer?
    Women's Soccer?
    Baseball?
    Volleyball?
    Crew?
    Golf?
    Cross Country?

I'm sure many fans will say they could care less, yet for many fans who believe the WCC was a downgrade in all sports, I just don't see any one sport BYU will be favored or in the discussion of winning this season? Maybe Basketball, given the program tradition, but the WCC has teams superior or ranked in the Top-25 in the Country in every sport listed above.

Considering Football isn't the only sport that counts, its more to point out that the WCC would SPANK the Big-12 or MWC in most sports besides Football...and even basketball in certain years.

If I had my druthers, I put football and hoops in the Big 12 and everything else in the WCC. That would be great.

Track and Rugby, bitch. And you're wrong; we couldn't care less.

Well then I should point out that BYU regularly SPANKS the rest of the country in its non-awesome sports, including golf, cross country, women's soccer, track, badminton, ten pins, etc. I personally wouldn't say I could care less because the fact is that I probably couldn't care less.

WCC doesn't compete in track besides Cross Country -- rugby is only a Club Sport in our conference.

More or less, the point is the WCC are very good in the sports they do offer...I guess your Conference brethren's aren't feeling very respected with the talks of leaving for the Big 12 and the lack of excitement of joining our conference. Its not everyone, but definitely the majority.

I think we compete for several, but it will be a challenge in all.

Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.

Why not men's volleyball? Men's bball (you said compete, not dominate).

My point exactly. Just like you couldn't care less about sports in which the WCC doesn't compete, BYU fans couldn't care less about the sports which aren't football and mens basketball.

Maybe the reason you don't feel respected is that we don't respect you.

I honestly don't think anyone gives two shits about the WCC. It's a place we could park our non-football sports.

Men's volleyball? My bad...I did leave it out...

Considering Pepperdine, LMU, San Diego, et al are ranked in the Top-15 every year in Men's VB and make to the VB Final Four most years along with UCLA, USC, Cal, & Stanfords of the world...

As for Golf, Volleyball, Baseball, Men's Volleyball, Soccer, Women's Soccer, Women's Basketball, Crew, Cross Country, etc...the WCC features a Top-25 in every single sport and / or have won a National Championship in each in the last decade along.

Nevermind...apparently, football is the end all of any sports-related discussion.

Carry on to the Big 12 expansion thread...nothing to see here...

There are sports besides football and basketball? I can't name any.

You need to bone up on your BYU men's volleyball history. We are the UCLA, USC, Stanfords, et al, of the world.
