  • Where does all the money go?

Where does all the money from College Football revenue go? Does anybody know? The whole reason the BCS exists, as I understand it, is money. They get the biggest television contracts and the biggest bowls/payouts. But where does all the money go? What makes schools so excited about more money? Do the school Presidents get rich off it? Do the teams all really just blow it when they go to bowl games? Who is getting rich here, because SOMEBODY is getting rich here, besides the coaches. Anybody know?

Well at least in the SEC the players are getting rich too.

As far as I can tell, it just gets spent by the athletic departments to make themselves for competitive. When you look at the financials for the big money programs like Texas, Ohio State, Florida their revenues are ridiculous like approaching $100M or whatever, but they don't make a ton of profit.

I would imagine it is much different at BYU than at other universities, but in my brief experience working in an athletic department I can tell you that usually the money that Football makes (including TV revenue) goes to support programs that don't make any money to support themselves (women's sports & 1/2 of the men's sports). It costs a ton a money to send teams all over the place, pay for coaches, training staff, etc.
