The only thing that surprises me is that it took this long. The search starts and stops with Urban. Only after he turns it down does a search really begin. I don't think he'll turn it down.

This sucks to some degree, because now I think the NCAA might be lenient. I hope not. I hope they hammer Ohio State.

I agree. I am shocked it took this long. He should have resigned a couple of months ago.

I can't wait to listen to the Dayton Sports Scene with Mark Neal. The meltdown will be epic. It sucks for Dayton's own Braxton Miller, their most recent blue chip recruit. I wonder if he'll transfer. Buckeye fans have built up a lot of bad karma over the past few decade with gratuitous gloating over their dominance over Michigan the turnabout won't be pretty.

I really do hope the NCAA will be lenient, as I wish they would have been with USC. College football is more fun when the non-SEC powerhouses are in contention.

Sounds like the DC Luke Fickell will be the interim for 2011. Then tOSU will have to settle for their 2nd or 3rd options after Coach Whit turns them down, just like he turned down Tennessee and USC.

Pete left. Garrett was fired. The NCAA was not lenient.

What was wrong with the existing OSU thread we had going? Lame.

The word is that because OSU is cooperating with the investigation they won't get USC-level sanctions. It also seems they won't be hiring a new HC until November at the earliest. There are already rumblings of a certain 5-star recruit that was already wavering on his OSU commit, along with a couple others that were deciding between UM and OSU going blue in the next few days.

The SI article coming out later today is supposed to shed light on the timing of Tressel's resignation as well as introducing a bunch more dirt. Because it's been going on since Tressel got there, it's not impossible that the 4-year statute of limitations would be lifted, but that also seems unlikely at this point.

So, basically, cheat a lot, cooperate and get a slap on the wrist.

Another fantastic precedent set by the NCAA if it turns out that way.

EDIT: And ESPN gets Brent Asswipe Musberger to report on this. tOSU hates him with a passion.. They could have at least gotten turncoat Herbie to diss on tOSU and Tresell...

I wonder if tOSU has any interest in Chris Peterson.

Boise's future is pretty bleak right now. The MWC is a sinking ship. I realize for Boise, it was a lifeboat from the WAC,but the MWM lifeboat sprung three major leaks.

With the future of college football, it sure seems like it's likely that Boise is really going to struggle to compete at the highest level. They have an academically inferior school, a small fan base, very few TV sets and no money to speak of. They now have lost what was, possibly, their biggest asset: ESPN, and traded it for the mtn.

Peterson should have taken the Stanford job, but I wonder if he isn't going to finally take the jump some time here in the future.
