  • The Official Utah vs. USC thread

I'm so psyched about this game. The most anticipated games in Ute history are or ought to be in no particular order: Utah vs. North Carolina (basketball 1998), Utah vs. Kentucky (basketball 1998), Utah vs. Alabama (THE SUGAR BOWL), Utah vs. Pitt (The Fiesta Bowl), Utah vs. USC 2011.

Is there a spread yet? Who's going? I am considering it.

I'm looking forward to this game as well. I'm still getting used to the idea that this is a scheduled game, rather than a bowl match up.

I'd like to go, but won't be able to swing it. Kids and their games make it tough to do a lot of things.

This is very exciting. But the only game I will get to is Pitt.

I'm in, with the glorious ol' ball and chain. Of course, my somewhat flighty, gay brother in law just barely picked September 13th in Puerto Rico for the exchange of vows with his somewhat committed partner, so that could throw a bit of a wrench into the plans. I don't know which event I am looking forward to more!!

I would like to say that this game causes significant excitement to swell within my bosom. However, I personally looked forward to the Notre Dame game last year with more fervor than I am this USC contest, for three main reasons:

          1. At Notre Dame, I thought the Utes had something of a prayer, while I am not, uh, quite as hopeful about the results of the upcoming contest against the Trojans. Of course, a lot of good that hope did against Notre Dame.

          2. At Notre Dame, I was unafraid of having my skull fractured with the claw end of a hammer by a rabid Notre Dame fan due to the audacity of cheering for the visiting team.

          3. This USC thing is now an annual occurrence, in which I anticipate that we will wear their asses like hats AT LEAST once per decade. The Notre Dame thing was a one timer.

Also, at Notre Dame we got paid. At USC, we'll likely leave sore and poor.

Anyway, this will be a remarkable thingy, but I wouldn't quite put it at the level where you put it. After all, last time we played these guys they scored 6 points with a future Heisman winner at QB, and we won with Lance Freaking Rice!

Do you guys follow football much? You do realize that SC's offensive line is...well....very offensive right now. They may be starting true freshman on the o-line. Not a good sign.

My main hope is that NoCho hasnt had enough time to work out Utah's "downhill running game."

              We will not be sandbagged.

USC is like the moon, a gravitational pull.

You are preaching to the choir.

                Literally.

You KNOW that the game is in the top five if SU is considering going.

Who is the winner in that situation--the wearers of the others' asses, or the ones whose asses get worn? I would think that in either case, neither party can call itself the winner.

USC is returning a LOT of experience and skill on offense. Really the only question mark on offense we have is the O-line. Barkley isn't the best QB in the nation, but he's VERY solid. I really hope he stays for his senior season. Utah better hope they can rebuild their secondary or it's going to be a long day.

The Trojan D was mostly inexperienced last year, with a few good players sprinkled in here and there. I really hope Monte can turn things around, last year had some games where I just couldn't watch. We were 2 last-minute-drives away from a 10 win season.

Would it not be wise to wear trousers that are much too big as to be around the knees at all times (with a belt to secure them to said knees) and a flat-billed cap that is too small for the cranium that is placed sideways atop one's head?

Questions abound all over the place, I'm only confident in two spots on offense; Woods & Ellison, after that it's a crap shoot. Fat QB continues to make BAD decisions and throws a ton of picks. It's his third spring, regardless of the inexperience at OL, he still makes WTF are you thinking passes. Hopefully, the OL will gel at fall camp; if we have to rely on incoming freshman, we're done. Consistent play calling would help as well.

I'm more optimistic about the defense; they can't get any worse. I thought the secondary played well this spring as did the LB's. If they can stay healthy, I think they have a chance to be one of the better units in the PAC.

Control of the LOS is the key to this game. At this point, I think we're going to see a defensive battle. SC potentially has the game breakers on offense, the question is, will the OL allow them to take advantage of the talent? I'm looking forward to this one.
