    Games: 1984 - 2008

    BYU total team passing efficiency
List games where passing efficiency was worse than Hall's against Utah:

    Code:

         | qb qbexp year eff opponent opp_rank opp_wins opp_loses |
         |----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
     20. | Bosco 21 1985 65.66857 Texas-El Paso 105 1 10 |

    108. | Shoemaker 2 1997 61.25455 Hawaii 104 3 9 |
    143. | Doman 1 2000 61.90244 Colorado St 23 10 2 |
    169. | Berry 5 2002 46.55 New Mexico 75 7 6 |
    181. | Brown 1 2003 24.6 Utah 24 10 2 |
    239. | Hall 25 2008 68.82927 Utah 13 12 0 |
         +----------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
qb = equals dominant qb in game (for example Doman and Peterson had about equal time against Colorado St.)

qbexp = number of games (included the game in question where the quarterback received significant minutes)

    eff = passing efficiency

opp_rank = end of year MOV computer ranking

The game that is probably even worse is Bosco's 1985 game against UTEP. Very similar passing efficiency for two very experience quarterbacks. Bosco performance is even worse given that UTEP was awful. All the other games with worse efficiency are with relatively to extremely inexperienced quarterbacks.

Slightly expanded sample. All games with efficiency < 80:

    Code:

     34. | Lindsley 10 1986 24.528 San Diego St 42 8 4 |

Doman against Louisville is a pretty similar performance as well.

What about Detmer vs Wyoming - didn't he throw 5 picks in the second half against them during his freshman season?

Covey started that game and played the first half, I think.

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

You probably right. I forgot that my pass efficiency data is missing reports from halfway through 86 to towards the end of 89. So I am missing that data.

Now that you mention it, I'm positive you are correct.

I found Detmer's stat line though:

Detmer's debut, as a redshirt freshman, came in the 1988 season-opener against Wyoming. In relief of Covey, he completed 9-of-26 passes for 133 yards, four interceptions and one touchdown.
              So his efficiency is 59.51.

So that belongs as well, but it was his first game.
