  • The New Rivarly Thread

I anticipate this thread will have a long and robust life, though the start may be slow.

I am looking forward to our new rivalry with Colorado and embrace the Buffs heartily. UTah-Colorado always seemed to me like it should be a natural fierce rivalry. Rivalries are a hallmark of the Pac 12, and I'm sure it won't take too long before we'll be like Oregon-Washington.

I am looking forward to trading smack with some Buffs here. I know the Buff program will recover from its near death experience and return to national prominence soon.
When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

Have fun with Colorado. I look forward to our new rivalry with Texas, although Texas will actually have to beat us before I consider it a rivalry.

          Utah's new rival = Colorado
BYU's new rival = The World

The very presence of this thread proves its own absurdity and impotence.
            Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I'm looking forward to the upcoming rivalry as well, SU. It will be most fun to be able to interact with a fanbase that is made up of a greater number of degenerates than ours. And Utah will finally have some western competition in skiing. I'm tired of having to deal with those jerks from Vermont.

Okay, so if the world is BYU's rival as well as BYU's campus, that must mean that BYU athletics is entirely intramural.

I'm going to love this thread. I think Colorado will especially be a good rivalry for you in BB. They're a little ahead of you in terms of program strength, but it will be a good battle to see if either of you can crack the top 10 in the new Pac 12.

This is only fair. We've rejected so many wanna be BYU students that had to go with their "safety" (Utah), that it's about time you can reject us at something.

I would say it's less about them rejecting us and more like them moving on to their next stalking victim. But let's not ask the judge to lift the restraining order just yet.

The Utes discarding BYU as a rival is somewhat akin to SU leaving the LDS church. Leave it, but never stop obsessing over it.

I'm not leaving BYU behind as a rival. It's a duty thing. You guys need me so very much. I can't - I won't - abandon you.

My experience at the University of Colorado was that there were a lot of Granolas and a lot of people that wanted to act like they were at a UC school but clearly weren't.

I think Colorado and Utah will get on swimmingly since both schools have a lot of people that would really rather be somewhere else. The wannabe Granola population at the U will be good little brothers to the real thing at Colorado. You guys deserve each other.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
