Sounds like he had football in his plans. With all the conference talks though it looks like no one is excused. Interesting I heard Sid Goings Brothers did not go on a mission and they did not do so well in Rugby in New Zealand. I quoted him from conference in my talk this past week.

Just like all the athletes at BYU, well everyone for that matter. If he chooses to go I support him and wish him the best. Jimmer disproved hopefully once and for all, the theory that if one of your athletes doesn't go on a mission, your team won't do so well.

I heard that movie was a little over the top on the preachiness factor. True?Originally posted by Viking View PostGrape has a point. I took my kids to see "Soul Surfer" last night and the scene after she decided not to go on her evangelical youth mission trip to Mexico, a shark bit her arm off.

It was awful. We saw it at our neighborhood cinema here in NYC (the sony theaters, or whatever they are called now) and I almost walked out with the kids. I have no patience for preachy movies.Originally posted by Clark Addison View PostI heard that movie was a little over the top on the preachiness factor. True?
I am serious that the movie not so subtley linked not going on the "mission" and getting her arm eaten by a shark. It's something Grape would have used as an object lesson and something I had to "unteach" my children afterwards.
I had a feeling we were in trouble when the production company that rolled in the opening credits was "AFFIRM" or something like that.

Every worthy young man should serve a mission. If he doesn't go, we will know the reason."Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill

Perhaps. But I pay my tithing and request that it all go to BYU athletics, so I don't feel the need for BYU athletics to succeed.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostYes, and every LDS person should want BYU to succeed because of the added exposure for the church."Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill

If he doesn't serve a mission, it will be because he isn't worthy to serve a mission. I'd have no idea the reason he wouldn't be worthy, but that's really not relevant, is it?Originally posted by camleish View Posti'm not sure what this means. how would you know the reason?

Do you also request your tax dollars all be spent on planned parenthood and towards lobbyists pining for net neutrality?Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View PostPerhaps. But I pay my tithing and request that it all go to BYU athletics, so I don't feel the need for BYU athletics to succeed.

I like the "no one is excused" line. It makes it sound like someone thinks they have actual authority over him.Originally posted by grapevine View PostSounds like he had football in his plans. Well, I think I agree. But "succeed" probably doesn't mean the same thing to me as it does to you. If BYU had teams like Army's or Navy's or Air Force's they would do plenty for good exposure of the church. You guys want national championships. I don't think every LDS person should necessarily want BYU to achieve that.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostYes, and every LDS person should want BYU to succeed because of the added exposure for the church.“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”
