So after my experience in Zion, I decided hiking was something that is actually enjoyable and would be a good way for me to start to shed some of these pounds and get back in shape. I have a really hard time exercising for exercise sake. So yesterday we went out and bought hiking boots for both of us and decided we should try to start hitting some of the local trails. Found a site called localhikes.com where people put in their favorite trails, distance difficulty, etc. So we found one (Centerville Canyon) that it said was 1.3 miles round trip with about 900' elevation gain. Nice starter hike. The problem is the directions to the trailhead were not exactly precise and we ended up doing Parrish Canyon instead. 3.5 miles, 2000' elevation gain. Oops. I guess doing more is okay, assuming my legs work at all tomorrow.
Any suggestions on a reasonably priced GPS /topo software good for hiking?
