  • The FITDAY thread

For those that have recently joined the cult of fitday (thereby raising the value of the stock pelagius recently purchased in fitday), what kinds of things are you eating to try to stay full but stay on the path? I don't want to get too burned out on the same things over and over.

I enjoy grilling chicken breasts and I also enjoy grilling beef. Not sure if I will ever get tired of chicken and beef, so for now, I will keep eating it with pleasure. I am trying to lean towards the chicken for a couple more months (sorry, cowboy).

Some examples of my current snacks include:

a cup of yogurt with blueberries mixed in
piece of fresh fruit (bananas and strawberries are my faves because they are an easy snacking size)
half cup of grape tomatoes and a couple of slices of fresh mozza, teaspoon of olive oil, and vinegar (love the vinegar)
I recently posted one of my favorite post-gym snacks: 2 tablespoons of peanut butter, one banana (sliced), half cup of blueberries...YUM! and this is as sweet as any dessert out there.
Cup of steamed edamame (i go no salt these days and just enjoy the flavor of the beans)

For breakfast, a few things I am enjoying right now:

2 eggs, over medium and 1 cup of oatmeal with fresh fruit or honey
Bowl of cold cereal, milk, fresh fruit sliced in the bowl
2 egg omelet (milk, peppers, onion, diced chicken)..surprisingly healthy, but you have to watch the butter. One pat of butter won't kill you and you can usually cook most breakfast stuff with the one pat. If you have a good teflon pan, you won't need any butter at all.

I am trying to watch my carbs, so I have really cut down on breads because that is the easiest carb for me to monitor consciously at each meal. I am not as tempted to eat rice or pasta at breakfast, for example, but bread is everywhere at every meal and snack.

    Desserts
Yogurt is magic. Sweet and delish, still pretty good for you. In addition to fruit, mix in some nuts, as well. This is an amazing snack.

Skinny Cow makes a mean ice-cream sandwich....mint, vanilla, chocolate, peanut butter....and they taste shockingly good.

Fresh strawberries or peaches, cover in a half cup of milk.

My current Lent foods...I am trying to avoid them entirely, no exceptions:

Soda (not very hard for me as I barely ever drink soda anyway...maybe a can once every other week during normal conditions, max)
Fruit juices (VERY hard for me. I love juice and punch)
Candy (I miss you, Sour Patch Kids)
    Chips
    Fast Food

Any tips or shared snack ideas would be appreciated.
    Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Beef Jerky. Low fat. Lowish calorie. High protein. Just don't down an entire bag at once.

My sincere recommendation is that you make it yourself. Build a shed out back, get some hickory logs, smoke away. Way better than commercial stuff. And cowboy will thank you.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

I will look into my HOA convenants.

Although "western" or "free range" type activities are expressly prohibited in our neighborhood, I think I remember a exception clause for the burning of hickory logs.

I had signed up long ago and was reminded by the thread earlier today. I went in to put in what I had eaten so far. What a freaking hassle. it seems as if http://www.thedailyplate.com/ has a better selection of actual foods.

So I had a Dannon Light and Fit Cherry Yogurt and a Nature Valley Peanut butter granola bar. Neither of which I couls find intheir food selection. IS there a good trick to finding what you have eaten?

I tried fitday, but got sick of entering in the values of everything, I could never find what I had eaten in their system. I use thedailyplate.com now, it's got damn near everything there.

This is one of the rare moments where I depart from Mr. Brown's wisdom. However, in Texas, you can be shot for not allowing smokers.

Liquid smoke does a really good job of flavoring if you must do it another way.

I have heard good things about the daily plate. Does it log activities like fitday? and have all the nutrition and metabolic type reports and graphs? I need graphs.

Fit day is a little difficult when trying to find certain things. We have had to customize and make a few food facts ourselves.

All this morning I have been trying to search and find out how many calories you burn rebounding (yes, jumping on a mini-tramp is called rebounding) for 30 45 and 60 minute increments. I want to enter it into fitday but can't seem to find any two opinions that are close . . . .

The foods that I have been trying to stay close to are:
beans (I eat black and kidney beans)
                fish
                turkey
                chicken
                eggs
                yogurt
dark green veggies (romaine lettuce only, broccoli, asparagus, zucchini)
colored veggies and fruit (red bell pepper, grapes, blueberries, strawberries, oranges)
brown rice (instead of white) cuz rice is a MUST HAVE in this house
I just bought some tofu too, I love tofu, but I realize it is an acquired taste

                Things I try to avoid:
cheese (this is really hard for me)
                candy
                ice cream
too much bread (I get plenty of carbs from cereal, rice, fruit and veggies)
                butter

                Things I AVOID COMPLETELY:
drinking calories (I do have milk with cereal)
                soda
                juice of any kind
                fried food
                fast food
                milk based salad dressings
                corn

                So how am I doing?

thedailyplate.com is now at LiveStrong.com. I've registered there as well and will play with that and fitday to see which I like better.

Well does it have cleaning the church as an activity? Because fitday does.

I have been messing around on both today. I like the foods list that thedailyplate.com offers. It's not even comparable really. They have most foods and the brands listed so you can be ultra-specific. However, the page isn't as intuitive as fitday.com and was a bit busy for my liking. Fitday.com takes the Google approach with simplicity. Maybe thedailyplate.com wasn't like this before they became part of LiveStrong.com, I don't know. I am sure it's something I can get used to, but I don't think adding the nutritional information for foods I eat into fitday.com is that bad. It is a bit time consuming, but at the same time it does make me more conscious of what I am eating.

Just as an observation, do people here eat a lot of processed foods as meals? Why is there such a concern over not being able to find "brands" of foods?

What sort of branded foods are you looking for?

For example, for breakfast.....2 eggs, a piece of fruit, yogurt, handful of nuts, water.

Dinner: grilled chicken, vegetables, water, baked potato, spaghetti, meatballs, whatever...

where does the brand dependency come into play?

No not many. Just as an example though you can find Yoplait Light Yogurt, Wonder Bread, Light Silk, all things I've had to add to fitday.com that you can find on thedailyplate.com.

It's not a big deal to me really. I figure there's probably an error of +/- 100-200 calories in my daily diet anyway so I try and be specific but I am sure it's off still somewhat.

Has anyone bought the premium membership? I don't see anything that seems better about it. I do think it is pretty awesome that you can pay them to not have advertising on their site, I would pay $10 a month to have that feature on ESPN or CBSsports.
