What if Austin Collie never went on a mission?

I think BYU would have gone to a BCS bowl in 2006. Collie is just now really beginning to recapture his ability after his mission. Imagine if he had never gone and had 2005 to find his timing with Beck in Anae's offense. The only thing BYU did not have in 2006 was a receiver that could stretch vertically.

I really hope Austin comes back next year. He is a special player. I would hate for BYU fans to be cheated one year of something BYU rarely has.

2006 is another great example of overachieving in my opinion. Look at John Becks receivers. Other than Harline he had a true freshman in Mckay Jacbosen, Zac Collie, Nate Miekle, Matt Allen, and Bryce Mahuika.

Doesn't BYU have someone other then Collie to return kick offs? Every time I see him try and take one back I just cringe.

Not to mention that Curtis Brown was either the 1st or 2nd leader in receptions that year.

Beck was a great quarterback once his mental game caught his physical. He didn't need great receivers as he didn't need the space that Hall needs.

Collie was a solid college receiver, he hung around the Eagles camp until the last week or so. Reed was solid as well. However, I think that that group is more reflective of BYU's normal recieving corps than what BYU will have next year. I think if Jacobsen can be as close to himself in 2009 as Collie was in 2007, he and Chambers will be able to tear some teams up as teams will have no choice but to gameplan for Pitta and Collie.

I thought the rush game in 2006 was better than 2007 or 2008, and that was huge. Especially when Fui was healthy and weighed less than 250 lbs. I am glad he found a way to redefine his position and contribute, but his loss was a big one. Having two legitimate big time rushers was huge. Ever since then BYU has only had one and I doubt BYU finds another one for next year. Anyone hear any word on Pouhaha?

The Utes cringed on Saturday as well. They can tell you about his returns.

He was first with 62 receptions, Harline was second.

BYU is going to finish with close to the same amount of rush yards this year as 2006 and a higher YPC.

Imagine where BYU's rushing game would be this year if it didn't have a wide receiver demanding two defenders to watch his every move. In 2006 BYU's rush set up its pass and rather average receivers were able to find holes that a great qb could connect with them in, this year the BYU pass forces teams to respect Collie and then BYU teams can run against a defense with fewer defenders in the box.

Someone said this was BYU's best team in twelve years. That's probably true. In some ways this team was better. I'd take Unga over Jenkins.

BYU's power back was McKenzie, Jenkins was a change of pace type of back in 1996.

BYU had a great offense this year, probably as good as 1996 or 2006, but not as good as 2001's. BYU had a defense much worse than 1996 or 2006 and probably a bit better than 2001's. 2006 was clearly a much better BYU squad and 2007 probably was as well.

Kudos to Collie for having the guts to do the right thing.
