There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

My golfing buddy asked me if I wanted to do White Rim a couple of months back so we got things together and found four other friends that wanted to go and took off. They were going to make it a four day bike ride and my big concern was what were we going to do all day after only biking about thirty miles. Any way Thursday we arrive in Moab and get all the paper work done and we only have seven miles this first day to our first camp ground. It was late so that was all right. This first seven we dropped from the high desert into the canyon and it was spectacular (picture 1-2). The next day was a thirty five mile day along the rim of the canyon. The bike ride was a lot of fun but the people driving the support vehicles hated it because of the bumpy roads. At the end of the ride it became very windy and cold and just as we hit the camp ground it started to snow. Two of the guys we went with are big time campers so they had all the toys (heaters, cookers, movies, snacks) so that night really wasn't to bad. The next morning everything was a wet mess so we decided just to drive out. Biking would have been almost impossible. It took us seven hours to drive those last forty miles and some of those roads are unbelievable. Plenty of room for a bike but I did not enjoy going over them in a SUV. The canyon is absolutely beautiful. We had a good time but next time I go I'm just going to pound it out in a day. Anybody want to join me?Last edited by RC Vikings; 04-05-2009, 10:00 PM.

Some riders will tackle this loop in one day. Be prepared for an insanely difficult ride. Unless you're an experienced endurance rider, don't even think about one-day without a support vehicle. In hot weather, it's very difficult to carry enough water to survive. (Some solo riders carry cash to buy water from campers, others pre-stash water and food with touring companies. Heading into the loop without a plan isn't smart.)
