  • Buying large appliances online

Has anyone here ever bought a large appliance (fridge, washer, dryer, range, etc.) online? And I'm not talking about Lowe's, Home Depot, or Sears online... I'm talking about online companies like US Appliance, AJ Madison, HomeEverything, etc.

We bought our refrigerator from U.S. Appliance. The only thing I regret was not reading the fine print that "delivery" entails the truck driver unloading it from the truck and putting it on your sidewalk. He is not required to get it in your house and may or may not let you use his dolly to get it inside.

I was fortunate, plead ignorance (which was true) and the guy let me use his dolly so I could schlep the damn thing in myself. But he didn't lift a finger, even when I had to take the front door off its hinges. Other than that it was a good experience.

Just inspect them for damage and make sure they work before signing for them. I recently bought a dryer for my parents and the dryer made an awful clunking noise that even the delivery guy said that doesn't sound good. So he loaded it back up and we got a new one a few days later. Otherwise it has been a great experience. I also bought my parents a fridge a few years ago and then they finished off their kitchen during a remodel with matching SS appliances. All bought online, no issues whatsoever.

We bought a new dishwasher online thru Abes of Maine. They wanted to charge us for setting up the dishwasher which they said was required, but we refused to pay for as it wasn't written down as a requirement anywhere on the site. They didn't charge us but I had to install it myself, which wasn't a problem. I would definitely do it again.

I would reiterate what Surfah said and make sure that it is undamaged and works before you let the delivery guy leave.

            Good luck.
