  • BYU #13 in 2011

At least according to John Wilner:

    13. Brigham Young: First year as an Independent should be a good one with quarterback Jake Heaps leading an experienced lineup.

I'd be elated if Nebraska is a Top 10 team next year but it's doubtful given the Cornhuskers schedule.

      From the article:
      9. Nebraska: Not a bad year to enter the Big Ten, what with the Ohio State suspensions and Wisconsin breaking in a new quarterback.

The suspended Ohio St. players will be eligible to play against Nebraska on 10/08/2011. Here's the highlights of Nebraska's 2011 schedule: a re-match of Washington in Lincoln, @Wisconsin, Ohio St., Michigan St., @Penn St., @Michigan, Iowa. Nebraska will be fortunate to win 4/7 of those games. If Nebraska wins it's Big Ten division it will likely face a re-match against Ohio St. or Wisconsin in the Inaugural Big Ten CG. Oh...and Nebraska's offense is a mess right now. I don't see many 3-4 loss teams ranked in the Top 10.

Looking at this guys ranking a little closer there are some notable ommissions: Texas, Wisconsin, and defending champ Auburn. Although he did note that he considered those teams (which I think are all capable of making the Top 10).

Texas will be back as the Longhorns have as much talent as just about anyone else in the country. And it's not very often when a team plays in the BCS championship game and then is unranked the following year although Nebraska has managed to do this. So Auburn will probably be ranked in 2011.

Also the guy has 7 SEC teams that are ranked - over half of the conference. Doesn't this guy realize that conference teams tend to play each other which makes for winners and losers by default? Or if a conference has a large dose of parity then it is difficult to be ranked with a 4-4 conference record. Even with the great season the SEC had in 2010, there were only 6 ranked teams at year's end. Still can't belive the guy put 7 SEC teams in his ranking and the SEC and national champ - Auburn - isn't one of them. Auburn is much more than just Cam Newton.

Texas has some legit question marks all over the place. Massive coaching turnover and we still dont know how their recruiting will shake out on LOI day, although I anticipate it to still be fairly strong.

Same with Auburn. Don't they graduate like 23 seniors or something? Plus Cam is gone. He ain't coming back because he knows he'll get booted.

I've been in Texas too long to write the Longhorns off. The new OC and DC won't help but Texas has been loading up on talent in the Mack Brown era. The Longhorns return 7 starters on both offense and defense. Any hits to Longhorn recuiting (and they appear to be few) will not bee seen for a couple of years down the road. It's rare that a true Freshman plays.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
