12:00 Sweet, my last patient canceled today. Maybe I can hit the Wednesday night ride.

2:00 Excellent. Wife able to drop my bike off at the office for tonight. Ah crap, she brought the wrong shoes.

2:05 Honey, did you deflate this rear tire so it would fit in your car better? Ah crap!

3:30 If I work fast, I can probably change this tire while my patient is on e-stim.

3:40 I hope he doesn't mind a little grease on my hands while I work on his knee.

4:05 Where is she?!? Last patient was supposed to be here already.

4:45 Okay, last patient done. Change, pack up and get out of here.

4:50 Why won't this rear wheel go back on? Ah crap, it unseated itself while I was inflating it.

5:05 This traffic is horrendous? Where are all these people going at this hour? Would it kill them to work an extra 5 minutes every once in awhile?

5:10 Okay, I made it to Holiday Market. Ah crap, there goes the peleton down the street.

5:20 Made it to Grant school. Unpack, warm up and hop in the group.

5:22 Are they here already? Jeez. So much for the warm up.

5:25 174?!? This thing must be broken.

5:30 30 people in today's group. Must be some kind of convention in town for people less fat and more for than me.

5:45 This guy is making me nervous. I need to back off a little.

5:46 Oh no!!! A gap!!! 20 yards and counting. With less than a half mile to the big climb, no less.

5:48 There goes the guy that just screwed me over and caused me to get dropped. NOW he has some legs under him.

6:00 Is this thing ever going to end?

6:02 Ah, the top. But where is everybody? They always wait at the top? Was I that far behind?

6:02 Do I run the risk of someone seeing me and take the shortcut? Does a fish have lips? Absolutely!

6:10 Perfect - a headwind going into the last big climb. At least I was late and had to park the car 3 miles down the road.

6:15 Thank goodness for church meetings tonight. "Sorry fellas. Gotta run. Wish I could stay and finish the rest of the ride with you. Maybe next week."

6:16 Total ride stats - 18 miles, 1500 feet climbing, 56 minutes ride time, 19.1 mph avg., Max HR 178.

I like this, thanks for sharing. I do so many rides by myself that it's nice to see pictures of where others ride and hear about rides.

The fact is, I had no business being in this group at this stage of the season. It was really only my 3rd really hard road ride of the season. I think the trainer is nice to work on the aerobic base, but not much for power. These guys are major hammerheads. There were several Cat I/II guys there, with most of the rest being III/IV. The rolling speed rarely drops below 25 mph on flats and rollers. I was happy to just not get dropped on those 8 or 9 miles of flats leading up to the big climb.

I actually had a lot of fun, despite the pain. There is something exhilirating about going that fast through the rolling hills with wide, sweeping turns.

Man, you guys are on a different planet from mine. I just got back from my typical mid-week ride: 15 or so miles with one long climb. Including the climb, I average only 13-14 mph. I don't push it too hard, obviously, but the idea of averaging at least 18-19, which you would I'm sure, is completely foreign to me. Still, I appreciate being able to hang out with you serious riders in his forum. I feel a bit like the kid who brings his mitt to a Giants game--somehow, I am one of you.

I'm sure you say this knowing that mitts are made of plastic, right?

Hey, it says "Willie Mays Autograph Model" right on it, so if it's good enough for The Say Hey Kid, it's good enough for me.
