  • We need your support.

Surfah and I are planning to start a 4 week workout plan (with meal ideas to go along). The plan (from Muscle and fitness magazine) says it can help you lose 10 pounds of fat in one month. We'll see. The ideas are great. Lots of healthy food, no total elimination of anything. And the workouts contain both cardio and weight lifting. We are gearing up to start on Friday or Saturday. Sunday will still be our rest day (for the workouts).

Surfah will likely lose at least 10 more lbs than me if we stick to the plan. Suck.

But here's the deal, we need you guys to keep us accountable. Surfah's food choices really suck. And I hate working out. But together we are going try to make this happen, and keep up the workouts after the 4 weeks are up.

Things we must avoid: fried food, mayonnaise (any condiment based meal items), ice cream, butter, eating too many bad carbs. This will be hard for us as everything I just mentioned is the basis for his mother's cooking. Meaning we are going to have to say no A LOT, and make more meals ourselves.

Our biggest problem is the same, we both over eat a few times a day instead of more frequent smaller meals. Well, wish us luck.

    Good luck, dudes!

There is no "lose" when you go to the gym and watch what you eat.

If you truly want to be held accountable, I suggest that you post your exact daily diet here, minimum once a day. If you feel a moment of weakness coming on, get over here and post for encouragement multiple times a day.

If you know you have to report back to the group in the evening, you will be more motivated to stay true to the diet.

Also, you didn't specifically mention it, but try to totally eliminate candy and soda. You would be surprised how many calories and carbs start to add up by eating that stuff each day.

easiest diet there is: simply stop drinking calories. A lot of people can drop weight just on that alone.

I lost 10% of my body weight when I went to Diet Coke. I hate Diet Coke. It's like kissing your sister.

Whenever I am tempted to drink soda, I simply down some egg nog or something similar.

Exactly. Dairy creamer, also an excellent choice.

Yeah I am addicted to Coke Classic. But I stopped a few weeks ago only to treat myself at the movies the other night with about 16 oz of it. Oops. But I am back on the wagon. I have made myself only drink water with an occasional glass of milk or no sugar added 100% cranberry juice. I think we should post our daily meals (thanks for that advice DDD).

So yeah, other things we must avoid: soda, candy, but I would like to think those will be easier for us - but after 2 weeks of meal cataloging I think we will be a bit weaker.

Diet Coke is gross. My sister is much better.

I've lost 21 lbs since Jan 3. 11 more to go. I've used Farrah's CG recipe for baked brown rice a lot. Add baked fish and steamed vegetables seasoned with lime and a hint of adobo, mmm, tasty and filling. FWIW after dieting for a while, having the occasional "treat" like pizza or burgers, they don't taste as good as they used to. After eating right for so many weeks, heavy foods like fried burritoes have become gross. It's like I'd actually prefer a smoothie and then lifting for ten minutes.

I've noticed that as I've tried to eat healthier and exercise more, I actually get quite ill when I eat most red meat (sorry, cowboy) or anything fried (fries themselves being the worst).

Speaking of smoothies, Mpfunk and I bought a Magic Bullet blender tonight. Should of bought one of these YEARS ago...

I hear ya. After I fell off the wagon at the movies I felt bloated and yucky from the Coke I drank.

As another aside, I've started using Truvia to sweeten my tea and smoothies. It has a nice, light sort of vanilla sugar flavor without the weird chemical aftertaste I've always gotten from Splenda. It works well in oatmeal with berries as well. Oh, and oatmeal is like dieting superfood--lots of fiber, super filling, and won't leave you starving by 10 AM.

Here's a good recipe for your guys. I tried it the other day and really liked it. Unfortunately I ate it with a side of asparagus so my number one smelled like curry.

It has the texture of a potato salad, but a billion times better for you. If you can find creamy lowfat Greek yogurt like Fage or Trader Joe's brand, it makes a great substitution for mayo when used in salads and the like.

I have heard good things about Truvia, I think I will pick some up, that is another good way I curb my late night appetite: herbal tea. So yummy, not as good as real tea but it'll do.
