  • More important than not having a spring game, Garrett Redens career is over......

Reden was expecting to start this year at either guard or center. He has been a part time starter the last two years. His career is over do to the leg injury he suffered last season.

This will really hurt our depth at the O-line position especially since we only have 1 returning starter.

Let's see if we can get Max Hall, Harvey Unga and Jorgensen to go down with injuries. That will ensure that BYU fans can continue to build their off-season bitchiness to a feverish crescendo by Thanksgiving weekend.

BYU is avoiding this by not having a spring game this year.

Having attended spring games in the past, the spring game is the most boring football event I can think of. I'd rather watch a JV football game because it would involve the same players except they would actually be trying to win a game by running more than four offensive plays and actually run enough plays from scrimmage to legitimately call it a game.

You went back for more, and you can't deny that for whatever reason a lot of people (how many usually attend, 15K?) are drawn to it. Knock it all you want, but the participation says the demand is there.

It is very boring. The 1's don't play. It is the 2's and 3's out there the entire time. I really don't care that they canceled it at all and personally don't think it is that big of a deal they don't do it this year. I guess that last part is for the other thread on this subject......

I was a student living on campus; like there was a lot of other things to do. So where does BYU have their game that allows 15K to go see it?

I hate hearing stuff like this; sucks for Redden. Now everyone else has to step up. Prior to the injury, what were the expectations of the OL?

That if Anae would only use them to run block 40 to 50 times a game that we would win every freaking game.

Hopefully that was given as the reason in the announcement/communication, I haven't read it.

The expectations aren't really high. They are replacing 4 starters from last year. They do return the LT which is huge. Reden was one guy that had some starting experience so he was being counted on being one of the starting guards. Now, BYU really only has 2 guys that have significant game time experience on the O line. Reden is a big lose.

I agree that this game has been very boring, but that is BYU's doing. Does anybody at BYU know how to market a product? American Idol, the NFL and CFB are three of the most popular entertainment choices in America, it cant be that hard to create some excitement about the 09' season. I guess the home schedule and a returning Sr. QB is all the excitement this fanbase can take for the next 5 months.

Fine, don't have a spring game, but at least open 2-3 practices for the fans to come and view. Do something other than thumb your nose at the fans.
