Anyone watch this 30 for 30? I tuned in simply to see what if anything was said about the Miracle Bowl - just a small snippet BTW. But I was blown away by everything going on in the SWC and how brazen these boosters and coaches were. These guys are giving present day interviews and aren't even ashamed. I was just a wee lad so I have no clue what this was like when it was going on but to see it now is jaw dropping. Shoot, there are 25 year old clips of Dickerson talking about the money and such. SMU got the death penalty, but really every school in the SWC should have gotten it to based on this little doc.

It also made me think, no way has this stuff gone away.

I saw some of it tonight and loved it. Want to see the whole thing.

Is there any way to see all of the 30 for 30 specials? Does espn make them available? The ones I have seen have been great.

      $4.99 a pop on iTunes.

The old footage and interviews are crazy that they get. I love the old press clippings and pictures too. Eric Dickerson's Gold Trans A&M was rad.

30 for 30 is my favorite program on television. It's pretty funny how they totally demonized the one booster who refused to give an interview. Everyone else who participated came off looking pretty good.

The first 15 go on sale this week or are on sale now I think.

Crazy what the death penalty consisted of no wonder SMU never recovered.

No games in 1987 (Only condition practices no full pads allowed)
Only road games in 1988 (just so the teams that had them scheduled did not lose money)
            No TV until 1990
Loss of 55 scholarships over a 4 year period
5 assistant coaches on staff instead of the allotted 9.
No paid for on campus visits for recruits until 1990.
No off campus recruiting for 2 years.

So basically they could not leave campus to recruit and if a recruit wanted to see them he had to pay his own way.

No wonder they never recovered they should have just eliminated their football program completely.

I was actually pleasantly surprised with how much play they gave to the Miracle Bowl given that it's not really directly a part of the Death Penalty narrative. They showed probably 20-30 seconds of video from it (including one great clip of McMahon trying to be friendly to Ron Meyer after the game and Meyer kind of blew him off) and said something like "a game that many believe to be the greatest comeback in college football history."

What dawned on me for the first time was that Craig James lost to Jim Mcmahon in the two biggest games of his life - he only got one bowl game and that was the Miracle Bowl, and then McMahon was the QB of the team that beat his Patriots in the 85 Super Bowl.

No wonder he (allegedly) hates BYU.

Until proof comes out otherwise, you cannot convince me that SMU wasn't a special case. There's a difference between rogue boosters handing out cash ... and the university president. And pretty much every SWC school was on probation at one time or another in the 1990s. They got theirs. But SMU was a special case. Like Pony Exce$$ said, it earned the death penalty. With relish.

I missed it last night as we were in Portland, I checked the schedule and it is on one either ESPN or ESPN2 tonight in HD. If you want to save yourself $5 on iTunes.

Gives an interesting twist to the Leach situation as well. When was Leach at the Y?

Edit: Looks like he graduated in 1983 but never actually coached according to his bio. So nevermind.

I saw part of it last night and loved what I saw. I too want to buy or download every episode of 30 For 30. It's one of the best doc series I've ever seen.

Why did I think Leach was an assistant at some point? Anyone else hear that?
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah
