  • Fortuitous Boise State

Has there ever been a more fortuitous team than Boise State when it has come to playing teams from the Mountain West?

They get BYU in their biggest slump in 40 years, during the Crowton years.

They get Utah initially when they were not good. They get Utah this year with their starting QB out for the bowl game.

They get a star struck TCU in their first BCS bowl game (ok...TCU really gagged)

...I'm just saying...every time a MWC team plays Boise State...something is not quite right with the MWC team.

Would be cool if a banged up Utah put the hurt on Boise State.

My good friend bluehair and his gorgeous avatar are going to accuse you of sounding like a Pac 10 fan against MWC teams here in a minute. Next you are going to say the MWC teams aren't as interested in playing BSU as they have nothing to gain from it.

I get this argument. We needed Boise at the end of 2006 or even 2007/2008/2009. We would've played these chumps in our down year had we kicked that FG.

Maybe MWC teams should just nut up and play better. Maybe that's just me though.

gotcha. Boise isn't good. Its only their luck that has made them relevant. Makes perfect sense.

Most Ute fans I've talked to at work assume Utah will win because "we win bowl games, that's what we do". A few got the TCU/ND message, but many are still in denial.

BTW, no that wouldn't be cool if the Utes won.

              Thank you.

People sound like those whiny little weasles that never get promoted, and blame it on timing, or circumstance, or a coworker, or a customer, or the boss, or some policy, or government program -- on nearly everyone but himself. Sometimes the guy that gets promoted is just better.

mmyeah. It's been embarrassing for the MWC that Boise hasn't had a down year in 5 years, and that they'd take our best shot in each of those years.

(I do think BYU in 06 would've smoked em though.)

Considering Boise hasn't been smoked since Gore was relevant I think guessing at that might be impossible. I was in RES when Boise beat Utah and my immediate thought was Boise would handle BYU in most years.

I can certainly see some good fortune in Boise's record vs. the MWC.

However, their win over TCU last year pretty much puts that to rest.

The Boise State beat the best (or 2nd best) team to ever come out of the MWC.

Sure, I'd have liked to have seen 2004 Utah play Boise. 2008 Utah could have beaten Boise at home...neutral field or on the Clown Carpet, I'd give Boise the edge.

The best teams from the MWC have been Utah, TCU and BYU. Aside from 2004, 2008 and 2009, what years has the MWC produced a better team than Boise had?

Boise has been consistently good at a very high level. They don't have drop offs. They don't go through what Utah went through in 2006. Or what BYU went through when they lost on the last minute FG. That's why Boise has the record they have.

I'll tell you this right now: If Boise had lost Moore in the USU game and Utah still had Wynn, I'd still predict Boise. Bad fortune and all. Boise is just annoyingly....aggravatingly good.

BYU will have their chance during the golden years of Heap and a moment of rebuilding. Should be interesting.

Not making excuses, and not "whining" about an impending butt kicking.

It just seems to me that (aside from TCU) BSU hasn't got our best shot (Utah or BYU). They get something less.

It is what it is....they have scoreboard on the MWC. I also happen to believe that the 2006 version of the Cougs would take them out, the 2004 and 2008 version of the Utes would take them out.

Course...I thought the 2009 TCU would take them out too, and didn't.

My view is that Boise has created its own fortune. Good for them.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Agreed. When they played the teams that were supposed to be better than them, they kicked hiney.
