  • Got a gator problem in the cattle pond

I was out to the cattle pond over the weekend and noticed some interesting tracks. There are some larger ones (about 2/3rds the size of my hand) and a bunch of smaller ones. It seems a gator family that has decided to moved in. This is kind of strange given we are located in more of North Texas but there are reports of gators showing up now and then. My first thought was just to leave them alone since they would keep the rat population down. Then I was talking to a friend in my ward that lived in Florida for a while and he was telling me how gators would eat his dogs and could run up to 20 mph for short bursts. I also was reading about how big these guys can get...

Now I am wondering if I should have some boots made. Does anyone have advice on what to do with a gator problem? Also, do I need to get a license/tag to hunt these on my property?

A good friend of mine is originally from central Florida. His parents still live there on what sounds like a large piece of property. Growing up and when he goes home to visit, he says they go gator hunting on the property. Not sure if they get any special license or if the same laws apply in TX.

His dad is interested in exotic animals - has owned zebras, water buffalo, etc. His current goal is to have the largest alligator in the US on his property. Apparently he is currently "leasing" a 'gator similar to this.

You can't take a gator down merely by shooting it. FYI.

There's a vulnerable spot behind their head. Otherwise, you're shooting at Kevlar that can run faster than you can.

A couple pictures of the gator foot prints...

The first one shows all the baby gator foot prints. The second one is the momma's (?) gator foot print next to a friend's hand. I assume there is a daddy around somewhere as well.

I wonder if running kevlar can climb trees.

Isn't this the reason God gave us explosives?
