  • Bowl Projection Thread

I'm always entertained by the bowl projections ESPN and other sites start doing come November. It looks like the best bowl that BYU could get if they win out would be either the New Mexico Bowl (probable) or the Armed Forces Bowl (not likely). It looks like Utah will be headed to the Las Vegas Bowl and SDSU to the Poinsettia Bowl.

So where do you think your favorite teams will end up and who do you think they will be playing? What are the chances you attend the game?

If BYU wins out, beating Utah, I doubt vegas passes over them. But we will see. Short of beating utah, BYU goes to New Mexico IMO.

Anyone know when the current contract is up for the Veg? I wouldn't be surprised for Vegas to loop BYU into playing the MWC champ or P-12 4th-5th. In fact I would expect it.

How does this make everyone feel, unranked Pitt currently projected into Fiesta Bowl vs Nebraska.

Where would Utah end up in this scenario? I don't think a higher profile bowl would go outside of their bowl tie-in to scoop up Utah. Not that the Veg is anything to get excited about. Right now Ted Miller, ESPN's PAC beat writer, is saying that the PAC-10 won't have enough bowl eligible teams to play in the Vegas Bowl. SDSU is a shoe in for the Poinsettia being the home team. Maybe some Big-12 team gets the nod. I like the match-up of one of the Big-12 South teams with Utah rather than Cal or UCLA.

I think BYU goes to THE VEG for two reasons. 1)TK-M seems to have a love affair with BYU. 2)Utah and the P12 probably don't want a bowl game that is a conference game next year.

              Utah to THE POIN
              TCU to BCS Championship game
              Oregon to BCS Championship game
              Stanford THE ROSE BOWL GAME

The reason Trees to ROSE is interesting is it will create a situation with a lot of P10 bowl voids. Alamo, Holiday, Kraft Fight Hunger, THE VEG.

Beavs needs 2 wins from WSU, U$C, Trees, Oregon
Bruins needs 2 wins from Washington, ASU, U$C
Arizona needs 2 wins from Trees, UCLA, Zoo
Cal needs 1 win from Oregon, Trees, Washington
Washington needs 3 wins from UCLA, Cal, WSU

Oregon, Trees, Zoo and Southern Cal are already taken care of. This makes THE VEG interesting since it will likely mean an uncommon opponent for whoever gets there.

I'm actually hoping BYU gets put in the Independence or Armed Forces bowl. They are both post Christmas in "bowl week" and it would give them more time to use the 15 practices. The early bowls are tough to get the 15 practices in because bowls aren't typically announced until early December after all the BCS shakeout.

The ESPN projections have us in New Mexico against Fresno. That would be a fun game since Fresno helped put a kink in the plans to leave the MWC.

This is one of many reasons why the BCS is bad for college football.

I am guessing at this point...

Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl (Dec 22nd)
San Diego St in the Poinsettia Bowl (Dec 23rd)
Air Force in the Independence Bowl (Dec 27th)
BYU in the Armed Forces Bowl (Dec 30th)
TCU (vs. Oregon) in the BCS NC game (Jan 10th)

Without the BCS who would have gone to the Fiesta or other major bowl? Without the BCS Utah, BSU, Hawaii and TCU would never have played in the Fiesta and Sugar Bowls.

Utah would have celebrated 2004 and 2008 in Vegas against 6-6, 7-5 P10 teams.

What you say is true, but the BCS is still bad for college football. Before the BCS, any team had a chance at the start of the season to be named National Champion. Now, about half of the teams are eliminated before the season starts.

Where does BSU end up? If the season ends as it is today BSU will not go to a BCS game. Where does the WAC champion go? Humanitarian? Is there any wiggle room for them to maybe be invited to a bigger bowl left open by a conference that doesn't have enough qualifiers.

If things fell a certain way the Holiday would be open.
