  • Tonight vs. SDSU

I'm looking forward to it, in part because I feel relieved of the "must win" urgency that was present for the last several games.

Given the way Fredette embarrassed the Aztecs last time out, I assume they'll be keying on him, which may give Emery the chance to shine. If BYU just keeps it close for the first 35, I think it's a win. With the pressure on SDSU, not to mention Fisher's poor end-game coaching, BYU can win a close one. But if BYU continues their first half doldrums, a jacked up SDSU will win going away. I really have no idea what I'm talking about, but feel the need to chime in anyway. Where the hell is Goatnapper?

I feel the same way, i.e. there is no pressure to win. That said, I was at the UNLV-SDSU game yesterday, and SDSU looked like a well oiled machine. Even during timeouts and warmups, they carried themselves with a confident swagger that made me feel like they have finally realized how good they can be. If the Aztecs play that well tonight, BYU will have to play much better than they have played the last few games if they even want a chance at winning.

I'm really looking forward to this game. And I agree that it won't be too disappointing for BYU to lose.

I think SDSU will be nervous and play a little bit tight, knowing they need to win this game to get in to the Tourney.

I think the play of the "Big Three" plus Miles last night was encouraging. I don't think BYU had the slow first half againt Air Force that had been the trend in earlier games, it just looked that way because Air Force was having a lot of success on offense, which was unusual for them.

If BYU gets solid contributions from the big three and a little more help on the boards from Chris Miles I think they win this one. I also expect Jackson to not have so much foul trouble and to be able to contribute a little more.

I am excited, and like CC, wouldn't be devastated with a loss.

Actually, I think that with UNLV out of it and a three way tie for regular season title this is the rare year where the MWC tournament actually means something.

I agree, as long as BYU wins.

If Utah wins, it will of course be meaningless.

Therein lies the difference between you and me. I state the stakes before hand. Draw clear lines. It tends to work out. Ask 3D. I said before the Alabama game that if Utah wins this team is in the Pantheon; a piece of history. In fact, I said that's why Utah will win because that's what they're playing for.

I'm the one who already called next year's Oklahoma game a win.

Interesting that you draw your line after seeing that Utah will not have to play New Mexico in round 2.

I think both of these teams get in. BYU is looking to be a 6 seed if they win the MWC tourney. SDSU could climb into the top 10 seeds with a tourney win but is in at an 11 or 12 with a loss. Their rpi will be <40 and the MWC should be a 3 bid league.

On the game...I have no idea how it will play out. I think BYU will run a lot of ball screens when Fredette is handling the ball. I think SDSU will jump the penetration. I don't expect the zone will be as effective but our zone rotation has improved immeasureably in the last three weeks so I don't know what to expect. Cummard will fill up the box score, so will Lo Wade.

If we are in zone, everyone will need to find an offensive rebounder and sit in their laps because we can't outjump SDSU (ask JT about when he tried to outjump Wade). I think the "x" factor for BYU is Emery. Is he willing to put the ball on the floor and go by his guy to the rim? If so, we will probably win.
