  • Teams not included in this weeks rankings

Wow, 3 of the best programs in the past decade are left out of the top 25. USC, Texas and Florida didn't make the cut.

Those schools had 3 of the top 5 recruiting classes in 2009 (along with LSU and Alabama) and 3 of the top 10 recruiting classes in 2008.

Just shows that a lot of individual talent doesn't necessarily lead to a great team.

It could also show that the recruiting rankings are often heavily influenced by where an athlete signs.

That is to say, you sign with Florida or USC and your recruiting ranking is going to go way up.

The recruiting rankings, IMO, lean heavily on the programs to do their work. If a kid is good enough for Florida, he's a 4 star.

I think part of those rankings is laziness and/or a sales strategy on the part of Scout and Rivals.

Usually these guys have their star rankings well before they sign.

Take it one step further: no Penn St, Michigan, Notre Dame, or Georgia either.

Over years of following this, their star rankings go up when they are OFFERED by bigger schools.

This isn't some idea unique to me. Shoot, BYU fans have been joking about how some of their big commits will lose star rankings due to committing to BYU.

If a school is offered by Bama, Florida or USC, for example, they are going to get a bump in their rankings.

This is one of those stretches when you might want to pick up another "other" team.

Oregon's looking good. You might consider them.

OR, that especially in football the recruiting sheets are only a snapshot. I'm happy with Whit's farm teams/five year projects. If I had a 3-5 star kid and football was my main aspiration for him I'd send him to Whittingham over anyone else. Players grow great under his tutellage. He's the uber COACH if not the best recruiter.

Sounds good. You obviously are only using them part time...

It's really a bad year to be a Sooner fan in Austin. Any other year they would just sort of pity you, but this year you can't even break out the face paint or car flags without somebody thinking you're haughty and insufferable.
