Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I wonder if that is what was said or maybe they said, "we have Riley Nelson, no thanks." Riley has more life experiences.
UVSCCoug over on CB, the coach in question, said he was told it was due to Heaps. Well, technically a "5 star recruit" or something close to that. Not too tough to translate.

Well , then that would be Heaps and then Riley Nelson beat him out for the starting job. Doesn't speak well for whoever has the responsibility to judge QB talent.

It had crossed my mind that this decision does not appear to reflect well on the coaches.
Another possibility is that due to Cam's past off the field issues BYU was not willing to be part of the repentance process. Also possible that that decision could have been made above Bronco's pay grade.

If Kyle Van Noy gets a year delay in enrollment for DUI, I think BYU would find a way to get Cam Newton eligible pretty quickly if it wanted to. Newton's mistake appears to be a one-time deal, and not part of consistently bad behavior.
But wouldn't have that been something if Newton had actually taken an official visit to BYU?
About Newton, it strikes me as funny to think that he might have been interested in BYU. Sort of like when you have someone apply for a job with you who is way over qualified. You know you are a back up option. I wouldn't be surprised if BYU saw it like this.
