  • Everything's come up roses for Utah

It seems everything has come up roses -- ha ha ha -- for Utah football (Urban Meyer, Kyle Whittingham, the PAC-10 invite, same division as the SoCal schools, a great team heading into its first year in PAC-12). If KW had been McBride's direct replacement, would Utah still be where it is today?

    Undoubtedly not.

      Nope.

No. I think KW is a hell of a coach. But Urban put Utah on the map by adding a great offense to KW's great defense.

Yep. And honestly, Kyle needed those two years to learn a thing or two from Urban (insert onside kick reference). He is a better HC because he stayed on as the DC under Urban those two years.

Nope, it had to go down just the way it did

And in the long run it has proven fortunate that a number of Urban's assistants left as well. That has given Kyle the opportunity to have his own guys at OC and DC, as well as freeing up space for young coaches such as Scalley and Johnson.

On a side note I think Brian Johnson has a very, very bright future as an OC sometime in the next 3-4 years. I think he'd be something like 28 by then.

There are lieutenants and there are generals. My belief after McBride is that Kyle was a lieutenant, and wasn't ready for the job. Working under Urban allowed Kyle to learn and grow as a HC. But I'm not going to lie -- a lot of Utah fans wondered if Kyle was still a lieutenant after the Boise State game. How Utah responded after injuries and UNLV in 2007 proved he was indeed a general.

do you think BYU will offer him a job?

No doubt. We owe Urban a huge debt. None of this happens without him.

His sideline demeanor when he is coaching Wynn just screams OC to me.

I'm not sure he'd be the right fit in Provo. There, did I phrase that delicately enough?

I'm still trying to find my way on this board.

It really is an amazing streak of fortune for Utah while everything seems to be going down the toilet for BYU.

Yep. And the only reason Utah is going to the PAC-10 is because of Texas's flirtation with the conference. The only reason Colorado was accepted was as a prelude to Texas and Co. joining the PAC-10. And then of course the only reason Utah was added was because the conference wanted a partner for Colorado once they were spurned by Texas and Co.

Really, it was an incredibly fortunate turn of events for our Ute brethren.

This kind of speculation is soooo obnoxious. Would Urban Meyer have done wihat he did in 2004 absent Kyle? Would Urban Meyer be at Florida without Kyle? Would Urban Meyer now be fired from Floriday absent Tebow?

One thing we do KNOW. Is that Kyle has surpassed Urban's accomplishments at Utah.

All this complete horse shit about Kyle being a "leautenant". Our only experience with him as a head coach is that his accoplishements are second to none.
