Since I am so good at parsing Bronco's words and especially since Indy loves it so much, I have listened to a lot of Bronco since the TCU game, and this is what I think he means.

"I'm getting pissed at the offensive coaches dicking around with this spread crap when we have a shitty QB and shitty WR's. I liked what they did with the SDSU game. I liked what they did second half of TCU game. I'm going to step in and tell them that's all they get to do for the rest of the year. You will see a lot of power running. We might let Heaps throw some play action, little screen passes, and that's about it."

I talked with someone who is real familiar with college football and would be especially familiar with the SDSU/BYU game. I asked what he thought of BYU's offense. He said, I thought they ran a good scheme and did a good job in the SDSU game. He said he hasn't seen any of their other games, but he was real up close in the Texas/Nebraska game and other big games, so he does know college football and can compare.

Why would Anae, the offensive genius that he is, need Bronco to tell him that?

Accurate statement by Bronco. We are starting to get an offensive identity. Heaps throws best in play action situations. His pocket movement seems unpredictable to our O-line but play action resolves that. Our running game is best with a lead blocker. Thus, our offensive scheme is becoming clearer. I expect we will see a lot less shotgun, less of the wide splits, more power running, more Hague as TB, more TE blocking etc. I expect we see BYU use its size for the next 4 games and win some games the old fashioned way.

I suppose devil's advocate position would be

          1) if I'm looking towards the future and not so concerned with this year, why don't I practice the full BYU offense. Heaps isn't going to get better handing the ball off and throwing screens. The WR's and TE's aren't going to develop timing with Heaps running decoy patterns and blocking downfield.

          2) the goal of a season isn't to beat Wyoming, UNLV, UNM. We could beat those guys with our scout team.

Didn't Mahina finally catch a pass on a TE drag route? The staples are finally reappearing. The McKay Jacobsen at slot play 3 wrs experiment failed with glory! Back to double tight end formations and an ass kicking fullback who can catch ball named Mike Hague. Is Hague Irish or is it Flemmish or something like that? How manly can we be having a Flemmish fullback? I prefer the Sons of Hagoth and like Jay, I am moist with anticipation for when I-Own-UH Pritchard takes his rightful role at that position. When the hell did we convert Nederlanders back in the day anyhow? Ole, Ole, Ole...very exciting soccer team in those orange unis and fast attacking style of play, and to be sure some of them Flemmish ladies looked like they got the falsies!

Damn you, Pritchard's a linebacker. Stop stealing the good players from the D.

Why waste him? If he beats out Hadley and Keoishian then play him at ILB. But I think the position belongs to Ogletree and Kaveinga for the next two years. After that it will be a battle between seniors Austin Jorgenson and Tyler Beck and juniors Spencer Hadley and Collin Keoishian. We shall see how it works out, but I love a good fullback that can catch the ball.

Gimme more Mike "the fightin'mm Flemm" Hague! Then give me more Iona Pritchard!

Mahina looks like he has no idea how to settle into the soft spot of a zone defense. Pitta was the master at this, Mahina just awkwardly moves around and the play is over by the time he has decided yes he is open and sits down in the zone.
