      Rolls right of the tongue
"They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Are they distancing themselves from the Civil War? Does anyone expect UNLV to do the same?

Did Las Vegas fight in the civil war?

St. George didn't, but Dixie College recently abandoned the Rebel for the Red Storm. Pretty lame. Back when I was at Dixie, all three of the schools (Ole Miss, UNLV, Dixie) were in constant communication with each other about the issue.

I always thought the Dixie and UNLV Rebels were like Wild Wild West cowboy Rebels. Nothing to do with the South or the Civil War.

Boo. It's not like the South ain't gonna rise again one day. May as well retain the traditions.

Nevada's state motto is "Battle Born" because it became a state during the Civil War. IIRC, the union added Nevada to control the silver mined in its mountains. Gotta keep the war funds from the South.

Look at the mascots ... especially the historic ones.

They are still called the Rebels, though, right? This is just a mascot that has nothing to do with the nickname, kinda like Swoop and the Utes, correct?

Why would a school in Las Vegas choose Rebel as a mascot? It doesn't make sense.
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.
