  • Scott Johnson on Bronco

    Nice read:
    http://www.ksl.com/?sid=12734701&nid=883

This is one of the reasons why I like Bronco. I couldn't care less what he says about the Church and firesides and character and what not. I care that he walks his talk, athletically speaking. I know there are great coaches who aren't physical specimens but there's a certain respect that they'll never have from their players, that Bronco does. It's not the most important thing--not even close--but I just think it's cool that he puts himself through the same kind of conditioning that he does his players. I can't help but respect the heck out of a guy like that (and laugh at people who think he doesn't care about winning...).
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I have decided that I love Bronco because I really can't envision a better caricature of BYU. He's got everything that a Ute can poke fun at. I hope he stays forever.

      Watch your tone, Wally.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Shut up, falafel. If I could think of a name to call you that I haven't already called you dozens of times, I would. Take that! Tone, schmone.

Yeah, he says goofy stuff, but he has also shown him self to be a pretty effective football coach (this year is an aberration, IMO). It's always good to have a worthy opponent as a rival. (And no, I don't mean temple-worthy, although I am sure Brother Mendenhall meets that standard as well.)

I agree. The best part about Bronco is that he is like a chamelean (sp?). He is whatever you need him to be as a rival coach. When BYU is up, he looks so much more smug and (a utes fav term) "self righteous". When they're down his odd decisions (2 qb system, firing Hill mid-season) look so bizzare leaving fans either irate or stumbling in defense of him. I have never been dissapointed in bronco as my rivals coach.

Now pretend that Doman was the head coach. I would have a very hard time disliking that guy when BYU is up, and I would have a hard time chuckling at him when BYU is down.

The only one out there. I liked this example of Kurt Hal's work better:

                    Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I can't help but comment on the bolded portion. It wouldn't have taken you any longer to right click on it and then click on the correct spelling than it did to type out "(sp?)". Or you could just type it into google, or look it up on dictionary.com, etc. Just trying to be helpful.

I feel the same about Jim Boylen.

I'll always love Bronco, because even when he's losing he still get's under the skin of our little brothers up north.

Judging Bronco on what happens during game time, I'm a huge fan.

Almost everything off the field: his personality, how he talks, what he says, how he handles himself, etc, I absolutely can't stand.

                            It's very strange for me.
