I must have received 10 tweets yesterday from various Utah sports writers talking about how the BYU defense is practicing really hard. Quotes from players with "a new attitude" now that practice is more intense. There is talk of resurgence now in essence because they are practicing correctly. My question is how in the hell did it take 5 games to realize they weren't practicing hard enough? I really don't get it. I can understand the head coach turning over the D to his coordinator, but surely he looks in on practice and deems it sufficient or not, right? This whole situation is very strange.

Very strange. I listened to the Bronco show with Wrubell taped last night. Even more strange. All of a sudden they're going to start working hard? And the players are using Bronco's example of hard work as their motivation, the guy known for never getting on a plane to recruit anyone and getting home early to see his kids?

Yes, Jay, Bronco just extends his wings and flies to a recruit's home. He don't need no stinkin' plane.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostHe's not known for that. I heard it another way. I heard it as follows, that he himself realized he wasn't putting in the time nor the effort and he was going to put the effort and work in the future into BYU football.Originally posted by jay santos View PostVery strange. I hope I heard it right and you didn't. We will have to wait and see I guess.

That's interesting. So this is Bronco's new angle. "I haven't put enough work into my job, but now I'm going to, and I want you guys to follow me?" Also strange, but I like the direction.Originally posted by byu71 View PostI heard it another way. I am surprised all you desk jockeys are surprised about this. What is he supposed to say? "I just fired the DC and I am now running practices and our defense has looked as imposing as Urkel in his underwear but, hey, nothing will change, it will just be the same, becasue we are just that bad!"
Of course he and the players are going to say things have changed. He is going to do his best to make it feel like things have changed. ANd he is oging to try to convince tehm they can also change the perfromance/results on the field.PLesa excuse the tpyos.

They were his footprints and when they got home the hook was still on the car door and the call was coming from inside the house.Originally posted by DapperDan View PostI thought he was carried by a pair of angels."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

I just get annoyed about all this rah rah bs. Shut up and play. I'm rolling along fine. A little disappointed with the losses but hey it's a rebuilding season. Still looking forward to watching them improve. Now Bronco comes in and we get all this fight honor spirit work bs and I just want to puke.Originally posted by creekster View PostI am surprised all you desk jockeys are surprised about this. When I read that this morning, it reminded me of a few years ago when a Utah coach (I think it was Whit) said something like, "We're still working hard. In fact, I'm sure we're the hardest working 4-loss team in the nation." I know I didn't nail the quote or number of losses, but both statements are funny to me.Originally posted by YOhio View PostThe team is practicing like they're 5-0! That's gotta count for something.
