  • Is Tim Tebow in the discussion as the greatest college football player ever?

At first glance of this article by Bruce Feldman makes that claim in the first paragraph, I rolled my eyes.

But would College Football's Jesus be one of the top 10 players ever?

I doubt he'd crack the top fifty, unless we're ranking in terms of sheer hype.

If he has a Heisman-winning season, he can make a strong arguement for the Top 10. I think that he is already a Top 50.

2 National Championships and 1 Heisman Trophy in his tenure, with 1 season left.

Much as I can't stand his grandstanding, it's hard to argue otherwise that he doesn't belong on the list.

sheesh. I was going to say the same thing. what more does the guy have to do? He rushed AND passed for 20 TDs in a season....first guy to ever do that. Won the Heisman as a Sophomore.

Yes, he is at the center of the biggest college football hype machine in recent memory, but hype aside, he is a huge part of that offense. It isn't like he is getting by on looks or charisma, alone. He is a good player.

The "My life is better for knowing Tim Tebow" crap is over the top and annoying. But his resume already stands amongst some of the better college football resumes out there. And as the Rock of Love pointed out, he still has another year and is going in as one of the favorites to win it all again.

Also, playing for 4 years in college football at his level of star status (merited or no) is rare. I dig that about Tebow.

Correction - 2 BCS championships. There is no national champion in college football.

            Other than that, I agree.

I just don't see it. A hundred years of football and he's top ten? He wasn't even one of the top five QBs this year.

If you asked me, he's not anywhere near a VY or a Reggie Bush or Archie Griffin or a dozen others.

How is a player's greatness measured in college football?

How can you say there is no national championship, I thought Utah was national champs this year?

I was focusing more on dismissing him outright for Top 50. A guy that was the anchor for 2 national titles and won a Heisman is definitely in that conversation.

Speaking of Archie, he won 2 Heismans but never won a single title.

Tebow won 1 Heisman and 2 titles. Pretty impressive. He also holds the rushing TD title at Florida....a title he took from Emmitt Smith!

So if Archie is an all-time great, why not tebow?

                    Another tidbit about Tebow:

Tebow's rushing TD total in the 2007 season is the most recorded for any position in SEC history. The total also set the record for most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in FBS history.
Dude is pretty good at the college level. In fact, VERY pretty good.

There is a huge difference between "was" and "should have been".

He's won a helluva lot of games, rushed for a lot of TDs and has one a Heisman and two titles. I don't understand the hatred for Tim Tebow. I can guarantee that no one with a straight face can name 50 greater college players than Tim Tebow.

Top 10 talk is a little out of hand, but I would say he's in the top 25.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
