I'm glad someone told us... I wouldn't have known otherwise.
"If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.
"I honestly believe saying someone is a smart lawyer is damning with faint praise. The smartest people become engineers and scientists." -SU.
"Yet I still see wisdom in that which Uncle Ted posts." -creek.

Wasn't the marking of the beginnning of the recession in Dec 2007 a masterpiece of revisionist history?

IIRC, the decided that it started in Dec 2007, not because that was when GPD actually went negative, but rather, that's when it began to increase by less month over month. IIRC, there wasn't an actual month of negative YOY GDP change until September 2008.

I know at the time they announced Dec 2007 as the starting date, this was the case. GDP growth wasn't yet negative - which usually is what's used to define 'recession' (ie, the economy RECEDES). But with all the restatement of GDP/unemployment/all other macroeconomic variables that happens every month, I guess they could have restated it so that The Great Recession started back in late 2007...

Man, over a year ago? I wish they would have announced this sooner. The opportunity costs as a result of this delay are astronomical!

It cracks me up that the markets are way up today and apparently is based on this news. Maybe tomorrow they can come out and say that the recession from the early 1980s has been over for almost three decades as this will boost confidence even further and keep the rally going.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
