  • CUF.com's version of the crypt...

Can we call it the holy of holies?

So unpretentious. Call it the Sanctum Sanctorum.

Or stick with the themes and call it the Locker Room.

I think that may have been his point, as in, maybe the site would be better without one?

                Probably not.

Speaking for myself, the crypt is what made the other site worth it. Absente illo, I'd probably go find something else to do.

                    Afraid you wouldn't be invited?

Every temple needs an inner sanctum.

While the original reasons for the CP really no longer exist, it is nice to have a private forum to be able to speak freely, confidentially, keep out minorities, jews, etc...

Oooh to think! We could replay some of those golden oldies for the post-Robin CG crowd!

                        Not likely.

However when a crypt is formed, I would offer a couple of suggestions for how membership is attained:

                        1. Membership should be primarily based on length of active participation on the board. What hurt most about getting rejected from the Crypt on CG was that it felt like rejection from a community of people that I cared about. When I add to that the weight of Waters' bias, and how that rippled through the vote, (I remember him saying something to the effect, "I don't care how everyone votes, but if Robin is admitted, it will definitely affect what I am and am not willing to say here"), it all felt like a big popularity contest. It sucks to be told that you are unpopular, untrusted, and not valued.

                        2. There should still be a vote. The first point should be maintained by CUSTOM, not rule. I won't name names, but I figure most people would agree that there are a couple of regular posters on CG who have never contributed anything interesting, funny or of value to any conversation, and went on to be mostly insulting and mean. I could understand that such participants might not be welcome in The Sauna (which gets my vote for best name so far).

                        3. The usual rules of confidentiality should apply, or what would be the point?

                        Cheers!

Sorry, but the need for a separate invitation-only place where you can "speak freely" when the "public" area is completely anonymous strikes me as a little silly. And maybe a little High-School-Musical-style cliquish, to boot.

                          Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the purpose.
Have we been commanded not to call a prophet an insular racist? Link?

I always thought you should have been included. This is no doubt a heresy toi many. My litmus test is maturity, not personality. Still, enough people found you offensive enough that they didn't want you in and I have (and still would) defer to the group. Still, I would never stand in the way of you being there.
