  • Play the best player regardless...ESPN article

And this is why we find ourselves in the position that we are in. We run our team like a Union. And it is shit.

This is a great article from Ivan Maisel. [ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/columns/story?columnist=maisel_ivan&id=5574969"]Marcus Lattimore, Denard Robinson just part of youth movement - ESPN[/ame]

Today's young players aren't without problems unique to their youth. They still have to adjust to the every-single-day demands of academia. They still must deal with homesickness and learn the boundaries of their new freedoms. Upperclassmen who have paid their dues might not always cotton to newly arrived competition.

Too bad. Grobe, once a redshirter by default, believes the tie goes to the freshman.

"If an older guy is not mentally better, the young guys are going to play for four years," Grobe said. "He's going to get better and better and better. We have to challenge the older players all the time. The older guy being pushed is good. He raises his level. … As long as you're fair, and the team realizes you've got a best-players-play mentality, your team is not going to have any problem with it."

The only caveat with the young guys, Rodriguez said, is that "you just don't want to play them before they are ready and have them have a bad experience."

That seems less likely than ever.
Wish we could figure this out.

I'm not sure we have any reason to believe the coaches don't do this.

Considering not even Ty Detmer played as a true freshman, they have definitely made progress.

Jake Heaps doesn't have enough pass attempts to qualify for national rankings, but even so, at 87.1, he's 12 points lower than the 100th best QB in terms of pass efficiency.

Because Bronco said our QB's were in a tie (which I've never believed), but did it go to our freshman?
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Yeah, but Ty Detmer was probably like 5'6" 140 as a freshman.

LOL!!!! StatCoug strikes again. Such an enormous sampling of raw data, I don't know how the computers could handle that much information.

                  How about this effin' notion:

Neither QB for BYU is worth a pile of shit right now.

But one could be and the other never will. I know which one I'd go with.

Not a large enough sample to say that.

Probably take all year to get enough of a sample.

Didn't mean to strike a nerve but for the same reason I stated it the first time, there's not enough of a sample, especially for the freshman, to make that assumption.

Here are Heap's drives this year:

                            1. 3 and out (0 for 3 passing)

                            2. FG (9 plays)

                            3. Punt (29 yards)

                            4. FG (11 plays, 58 yards, only 13 passing)

                            5. Punt (44 yards)

                            6. 3 and out

                            7. fumble (only 15 out of 80 yards passing)

                            8. 3 and out (0 for 2 passing)

                            9. Interception on first play

                            So after 9 possessions

                            1. He has only 6 points to his name
                            2. Two of his three longest drives consisted almost entirely of running the ball
                            3. He has three 3-and-outs
                            4. He has an abysmal 87.1 pass efficiency, which has him on pace to finish better than Randy Litchfield, but worse than Carroll Johnston on the best season pass efficiency list

                            http://cougarstats.com/lists/ratingseason.html

So while you are busy dry humping a hard copy of Jake Heaps 5-star bio page from Scout.com, realize that he has done absolutely nothing right now to make the coaches' decision any easier for allocation of playing time.

                            P.S. Nelson drives = 29 points, Heaps = 6

P.P.S. Nelson is not very good
