  • Hee, Hee.....Boras realizes he may have crossed the line

So now Boras comes back with a "counteroffer." Boras suggests 2 years at 45M with *some* of the money deferred.....which is basically what the Dodgers were suggesting. Two days ago, deferred money was not acceptable. Now all of a sudden it is?

I love that McCourt basically said "screw off" to Boras and his new proposal. The Dodgers will now sit back and see which other teams surface to sign Manny. Once these new teams surface, then the Dodgers can get involved and see what the dollar amounts really are.

Obviously, now that we are more than a week into training camp, I can't imagine too many teams showing up with a free $23M or more on their books, ready to spend it. I almost hope nobody signs him this year. Will be a HUGE black eye to Boras and a near death blow to Manny's attempt to rehab his image. I didn't think it would be possible for him to ruin his image more than when he was in Boston.....but he is inching towards that here.
    Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

I actually think the opposite. This may be bad for LA. The reason being we are in the middle of spring training, teams will shortly figure out the kind of depth and players they have at certain positions. Maybe that young guy they thought was the future is not quite ready, or they have a major injury. We may see more teams start to bid, especially knowing now that Manny is willing to take deferred money.

It wouldn't hurt my feelings to see Manny sit this year out. Perhaps it would force him to realize that he is not bigger than the game, despite Boras telling him he is.

The negative in this is that Manny is an attraction who brings in fans to see him hit who would otherwise not go see a ball game. It won't be anything catastrophic for MLB, but with the economy slowed down as it is and a guy like Manny not playing, attendance will be down this year.
